Tillamook is definitely a good cheese source. There’s always a block or two from them in my fridge.
Remember at its root American cheese is a subsection of cheddar (except for the ones that are based on Colby). Sargento has sliced mild (the closest to American), medium, sharp and extra sharp cheddar, and Colby. So while they don’t full on have American cheese slices, they have better slices in the same general category that taste way better. Stella is good, my main grocery carries Boar’s Head so that’s the grate it myself parmesan I’ve got.
I’ve never met anyone who knows so much about cheese, outside of the guy in this vid...

:)
All I really know about cheese is that I don’t know very much about cheese. Oh, and that I generally like it. I’m the guy who goes to the fancy cheese section of the grocery store and picks up a block of something I’ve had before and a block of something I’ve never heard of just to see. Cheese is a wild and amazing world.
Have you ever tried Venezuelan Beaver Cheese?
(that’s from the Monty Python clip that I linked to above)
:)
Have not. But if I saw it I’d go for it. And I’d wear my “I’m not dead yet” shirt while doing it.
Did you check out the Monty Python clip?
The grated cheese is fine-it is real-those slices are not real cheese, and the mac and cheese is empty calories from starch and carbs, mixed with cheese flavored powder-no way would I eat one bite of either. I’ll take Sargento, or one of the other brands of real cheese to consume, thanks...
Sargent is great-Tillamook is only available in the chain supermarket in the next county, though-not out here...
SHUT THAT BLOODY BOUZOUKI UP!
I know the cheese shop sketch very well. It’s actually one of the things that opened the door to cheese for me, went poking around in encyclopedias and found out a good portion of those cheeses exist. Which in 1970s America was quite startling.
Important to note here, in terms of Kraft M&C anyway, is that Kraft makes TWO different types of Mac & Cheese. One is in a thin box and contains a packet of not-so-good-tasting *powdered* cheese. The other (the good one), comes in a wider box, and is called *Deluxe* Mac & Cheese. It comes with a creamy cheese sauce in a pouch. I would never again buy the one in the thin box with that powdered cheese.
It’s ‘cheese food’.
Whatever that is.
IMHO, it’s neither cheese nor food.
That is the product in the Philly Cheese steak. The most over rated roll ever.
To each their own-I just don’t eat processed food or empty starch/calories-which pasta is. If it comes in a box or a can, you probably won’t find it in my kitchen-I like my cheese real, and my food fresh.
