Trump Sues Chef Who Backed Out Of Restaurant Deal [Chef Backs Out After Illegal Immigrant Remark]
ABC News ^ | 08/02/2015 | Mike Levine

Presidential candidate Donald Trump wants a prominent chef to pay $10 million in damages after the food star bailed on plans to open a new restaurant inside Trump’s latest project in the nation’s capital.

A group owned by Trump — Trump Post Office LLC — filed a lawsuit today in federal court.

Last year the group began $200 million in renovations on the historic Old Post Office Pavilion in downtown Washington. And within months, chef Jose Andres announced he would be opening a new restaurant inside the new Trump International Hotel.

At the time, Andres issued a press release saying he has “long respected Donald Trump for his business acumen” and was “proud to partner with him,” the lawsuit recounts.

But after Trump made controversial remarks in June suggesting illegal immigrants from Mexico are criminals and “rapists,” Andres backed out. Since then, the two sides have been in a contentious, behind-the-scenes back-and-forth, according to the lawsuit.

“Mr. Andres’ offense is curious in light of the fact that Mr. Trump’s publicly shared views on immigration have remained consistent for many years, and Mr. Trump’s willingness to frankly share his opinions is widely known,” the lawsuit states.

The lawsuit says the two sides entered into a 10-year agreement for Andres “to operate a … flagship restaurant” in a 9,018 square-foot space, and Andres “was obligated to use and occupy the [space] as a first class, high quality, flagship, top-tier Washington, D.C. restaurant.”

The news of illegal Mexican rapists every day proves Trump’s remarks.

Wow, this restaurant owner is going to lose big time. Not because it’s Trump, but, because there is a written contract and he is in breach of contract. I’m sick of how the media intentionally neglects to report what Trump actually said about illegal aliens.

Keep the pressure on DT. Sooner or later they will figure out not to trifle with you.

On the flip side, we had GWB, who never fought back against his accusers and attackers. We can thank Karl Tokyo Rove for this. Seems he is giving Yeb the same, wrong advice. Good - I don’t want Yeb as president.

Chef Andres is illegally and unlawfully emigrating from his written contract, which likely has terms and conditions for breaching his obligations?

Irony....which reminds me....

Trump sues??????? My best guess is one of Trump’s companies is suing, Beach of contract? Sounds kinda SOP to me. Don’t believe me? Sign a purchase or lease agreement and then decide you want to walk away from it. Especially with a large corporation.

At least Trump is using his own lawyers, and not the Justice Department or the IRS. And, oh yeah, he is actually following the law.

I hope Trump leaves him wearing a barrel with leather braces as his only clothing.

The Mainstream Minions are trying to "Palinize" Trump, but fortunately, he hasn't got a McCain boat anchor, nor a Nicolle Wallace plant in his camp...

"If you thought Obama was petty and vindictive, you ain't seen nothing yet".

So, by your line of reasoning, Trump is also "petty and "vindictive".

I don't see anything "petty" when we're talking about millions in renovations, millions involved in a 10-year contract and other huge money committments connected with the massive edifice, I would scarcely call Trump's suit "petty". Is it "vindictive" when any fool knows that if this chef can get away with busting his long-term committment for no legal reason that other renters in the property could and would do the same?

Trump is protecting himself, his business and his investment in the property, as any smart businessman would do. I'd do it myself...and the smart-ass chef would learn a thing or two about money and ethics.

Since you obviously consider yourself such an all-knowing critic, a canny second-guesser and a super-smart business man, let me know when you are the proud, free-enterprise owner of a multi-billion dollar portfolio like Mr. Trump's.

Have to disagree about this being petty or vindictive.

If they decided not to put up the building or to give the space to someone else the chef would sue them and be right in doing so.

If you want out of a legal contract there is generally an escape clause that will let you out but it will cost you.

The chef could have activate it but instead choose to do it this way.

“Mr. Andres’ offense is curious in light of the fact that Mr. Trump’s publicly shared views on immigration have remained consistent for many years, and Mr. Trump’s willingness to frankly share his opinions is widely known,” the lawsuit states.

Maybe Mr. Andres is getting cold feet and looking for a way out of the deal. Mr. Andres cannot be stupid if he was able to make such a deal in the first place. Puzzling.

His chances of being highly successful in the Old Post Office building would be pretty high.

Curious on why he would want to back out after deliberately misinterpreting Mr. Trump's remarks. The mob?
