After a gunman opened fire in a Lafayette, Louisiana movie theater last week, killing two people and injuring nine others, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is pushing back against repeated calls to strengthen gun control legislation.
"These are sick people," Trump said of the shooter, John Russell Houser, who was reported to be mentally ill. "This has nothing to do with guns. This has to do with the mentality of these people."
"I'm a big Second Amendment person. You need protection," the presidential hopeful added in a CNN interview Sunday. "This person from what I hear had a record of mental instability. If it's proven and documented you have to be careful to not let them kill people. He had the kind of record where he should be in an institution. He's a sick puppy."
Trump referenced another recent gun massacre in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where four Marines were killed, to argue against increasing gun control measures.
"With the Marines, that was disgraceful," Trump said. "These are people who know how to use guns better than anybody. And they're not allowed to carry guns, and this guy shot them...If they would have had their guns, they probably would all be alive right now."(continued)

Wait a second. All the Trump haters say he is a gun grabber. Someone better inform him of what he really thinks.
Pray America is waking
There you go. Trump says what everyone is thinking. Go Trump.
But...but...he said twenty years ago.......
Savage just announced that Trump will be on his show sometime this week.
And Trump isn’t afraid to go on Savage’s show.
I just laugh when I read this stuff, because I think back to the times when I wished we had a guy that was doing exactly what Trump is now.
At least at this moment, I’m a very happy camper.
Thank you.
I bet many of us on here were Democrats just 7 years ago and were liberals before that until we grew up. People do change their politics as they learn more about how the world really works.
If I wrote all of my political thoughts for the past forty years like Trump and it was available for y’all to read, I’d be banned.
Wasn’t someone saying duct tape your head so when it explodes at least you will have all the pieces?
or three years ago: Trump's positions in 2012: Trump believes that assault weapons should be banned, who needs them except criminals and police? He wants a longer waiting period for hand guns, rifles and shotguns..
Not exactly a gun grabber, but not exactly 2A poster child either....
you running for President? And by 40 years, you mean this weekend?
BTW, the entire political thoughts I’ve had....would be consistent for many decades. It’s not that unusual...really, it isn’t.
Trump has stated a position before that he wants some guns banned and controlled.
What Trump says yesterday, today and tomorrow are likely to be 3 different things
yep, and young Donald, at the tender age of 60 something, figured it out. How inspirational.
Na ah. The first time I could vote, I voted for Ronald Reagan. I haven’t left the party, it seems to have left me.
Well Donald hasn’t seriously ran for President until now. So what he wrote was probably geared more with selling books in mind than anything. Liberals buy books too; now do I wish he was consistent? Sure, I would support him a lot more if that were the case. As it is, I think he’s already had a positive impact and it is rubbing off on some of the other candidates, especially Cruz, who has absolutely been on fire lately.
Is there a Law against some Nutcase being able to buy Glass Bottles, Gasoline, Rags and Matches to make a Molotov Cocktail?
How about that same nut buying Knives, Baseball Bats or any other Implement that could cause harm to another?
who needs them except criminals and police?
I was lucky (I’d term it unlucky actually) enough to grow up during the Vietnam War protests.
It wasn’t so much they were against the war that got me. It was the way they were going about it. It was a real hate-America fest, and it was so offensive to me I could never have been a Democrat in 1969.
Jane Fonda? I have seldom disliked anyone as much as her. John McCain finally achieved the same status with me.
Watching how those folks treated our vets coming home on top of the rest, I never regretted my registration as a Republican from day one of my ability to register to vote.
- McCain treated our vets and the families of our men MIA so terribly, I had to start viewing him like I did Jane Fonda, since after all I hated her for her actions in relation to our troops.
