“If my son attacked this officer, why didn’t he use a taser? “

A question for her .... “Why did your son attack a police officer?”

Stupid move on his part.

The excerpt doesn't mention the police mistaking him for someone else. The family is the one who said the police mistaked him for someone else because the family said he didn't have any warrants and that there's someone else with his name and warrants?

Stewart's mother said her son was going to attend the University of Memphis in the fall. He planned to become a doctor, and he has never been arrested.

They always use the same script.

Witnesses said he had his hands up, his pants down, and was begging the officer not to shoot.

MSDNC has confirmed this account.

Darrius Stewart, the 19-year-old passenger, was placed in the back seat of the police car to verify the warrants.

Of course there will be confusion when everyone is naming their kid Darrius.

When asked why Stewart was not handcuffed, police said they do not have a policy about handcuffing people in the car.

Maybe they need one?

I have always wondered why police demand ID from a passenger riding in a car when the driver is stopped for a minor traffic violation.

What is the probable cause to question and to detain someone for riding in a car that was stopped for a minor infraction?

Anybody?

Since when do police ask for identification from passengers for a routine traffic stop?

“The officer issued the driver a ticket and let him go. However, the passenger in the car had several warrants for his arrest.”

If this kid didn’t have a record, why would he try to attack the police officer? Something here just doesn’t smell right.

No need to read further.

To be fair the cop is supposed to let the thug get in the first 6 punches and fire 3 rounds before he takes action?

"If my son attacked this officer, why didn't he use a taser? There were two officers and only one of my son."

Why don't parent(s) teach their sons to never initiate physical confrontations with the police?

Create such high intensity situations and there is now way of knowing what will happen. But, of course, the police have to make perfect, millisecond decisions at every stage of a confrontation and the thugs have no responsibility at all to act reasonably.

Nobody was mistaken for anyone else.

The psgr clearly identified himself as one who will attack a police officer. The prohibition against same and the provocation for the officer to draw his weapon are not identity-dependent. It’s not a great ending, but the attacker entered a situation whereby his actions and his actions only; 1: The officer is justified in minimally pulling his weapon, and 2: how FREAKING DUMB do you have to be to not know that this is a losing strategy.

There were dozens and dozens of opportunities for the attacker to STOP, perhaps only seconds lone each, but he took none of them.

Is the headline writer TRYING to incite riots? Now all we will hear about is another “unarmed” black killed for no reason rather than being killed for attacking an officer.
