From the article: “[My parents] said there was nothing they could do for me. They’re not being honest with me saying they don't have [money] because my dad has worked for like a million years and they have a retirement account.”

“Then my parents suggested I go take out a loan at a credit union and I’m, like, how am I supposed to do that?" “I have to go inside the bank to get a loan?”

A budding socialist ran out of other people's money. She doesn't want to work. She's got a hard look at reality bearing down on her. Maybe, just maybe she will learn to grow up. How many people worked their way thru college without a 90K nest egg?

I agree. The parents are at fault. They never should have put $90k in the hands of such an irresponsible person.

Kim has one year left of school and no way to cover her remaining $20,000 tuition balance.

Hey Kim. There’s these nifty things called “jobs”. If you show up there everyday, and act like you give a crap, they give you money.
Put down the bong, quit financing your freeloading friends party, go to math, and biology class ‘cause I’m pretty sure your Dad isn’t 1,000,000 years old, and get your leech ass out and do something for yourself.
At this point the only thing your parents owe you is their love, and sounds like you’re wearing thin on that!

At least she was blowing through her own family’s money and not the taxpayers’ via financial aid.

All I need to hear.

I have rejected the millenials some time ago. Gen X has turned out to have some redeeming value after all. Later ones, jury is out. This last bunch, like, you know!

Call it quits after three years and grab the old fashioned Mrs Degree. You can then put your beer fetching and sandwich making skills to good use. There’s no other way out of your predicament, darling.

I used the GI Bill, and then worked as an RA in grad school.

I never whined once that my folks didn't do more. They did help some, and I was grateful for their assistance.

The young lady might have just learned the uber important lesson that no one is entitled to anything but a chance to work hard and succeed through effort.

helicopter parents babied her result spoiled and immature in the 20s. May take a while for maturity to kick in. Feel sorry if a guy marries her before that happens as she sounds really high maintence.

“Blows” $90,000 in three years?

I don’t get the headline.

It’s tough to find - or get into - a first rate college in America that charges less than $30,000 a year for tuition, room, board, books, fees, and (usually) health insurance.

So, it’s a story about a young woman who did not budget for her senior year, and, apparently knows nothing about student loans or working a summer job.

This is not exactly news in my part of the country.

Gertrude Stein called Hemingway’s people as “The Lost Generation”.

millenials are worse: not only are they lost, but they are last, as in “The Last Generation”, meaning the human race will end with their generation.

The beheadables may seem smart and coordinated, but combine these two traits with personal weakness, personal instablility, gullibility, and an abject lack of wisdom, and they’ll end up destroying humanity through themselves.

I could see going through the money at a private institution, but the problem is clear when she whines about what her parents owe her and that she expects them to go into their retirement account.

If she had a job and worked her way through college, that would have given her enough money to make that 90 k last all four years with no trouble.

It’s the entitlement mentality and blaming her parents that reveals the issue.

Good for her parents for not bailing her out.

OTOH, they raised her.

22-year-old college student blows her $90,000 college fund and blames her parents

Maybe she should get a job and save some money.

Or maybe she could drop out of college. It doesn't seem like they're teaching her personal responsibility or economic responsibility or common sense.

I'm sure there were people on my dorm floor who weren't quite sure where their next meals were coming from. And yet, they were pulling through somehow.

DANG!

I have a (former) friend who did the same thing.

Not once but twice.

He finally earned a pretty bs BA in his late 30s by driving school buses for $10/hour.
