ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay His speeches can blend biblical fury with apocalyptic doom. Pope Francis does not just criticize the excesses of global capitalism. He compares them to the dung of the devil. He does not simply argue that systemic greed for money is a bad thing. He calls it a subtle dictatorship that condemns and enslaves men and women.
Having returned to his native Latin America, Francis has renewed his left-leaning critiques on the inequalities of capitalism, describing it as an underlying cause of global injustice, and a prime cause of climate change. Francis escalated that line last week when he made a historic apology for the crimes of the Roman Catholic Church during the period of Spanish colonialism even as he called for a global movement against a new colonialism rooted in an inequitable economic order.
The Argentine pope seemed to be asking for a social revolution.
This is not theology as usual; this is him shouting from the mountaintop, said Stephen F. Schneck, the director of the Institute for Policy Research and Catholic studies at Catholic University of America in Washington.
The last pope who so boldly placed himself at the center of the global moment was John Paul II, who during the 1980s pushed the church to confront what many saw as the challenge of that era, communism. John Paul IIs anti-Communist messaging dovetailed with the agenda of political conservatives eager for a tougher line against the Soviets and, in turn, aligned part of the church hierarchy with the political right.

Yeah Francis,
Let’s all be poor-ass communists-except for the few high Inner Party members - who continually spy on each other to get small perks from the God-state.
I’m not Catholic so I don’t give a crap what he thinks....just another socialist!!!
Sorry, dude. He is the natural outcome of heresy and paganism. Turn to Christ alone, forget the hidebound control mechanisms of the catholic church and find real faith.
That’s the same terms they used to use to attack the Jews.
9/11 made me a Catholic again, looks like Pope Francis will undo that.
They both do not believe the Bible is correct.
They both believe that enslaving people though Socialism is a good idea.
They both love to call hard working Capitalist the worst names they can think of.
I think Kim will have much more fun hanging out with the pope than he ever did with Dennis Rodman
Can there be any doubt that this Pope is a Liberation Theology Communist?
Besides, most of the money in the Vatican came from Capitalists.
The stream of money will be cut down to a trickle.
He obviously forgot the words of the nun that tried to teach him, “Say what you know and know what you say.”
Surely he realizes that he is stirring up trouble.
I think the Book of Proverbs has something to say about such men.
Isn’t he a Jesuit?
This Pope is a Potato-Head wanker.
Catch that #%$%&! goose who has been supplying us with eggs and let's eat him!
How I HATE that goose!!!”
-Pope Francis
While I am not Catholic, this guy is making me miss the days of Benedict XVI or even John Paul II.
If global capitalism is the “dung of the devil” then what is global socialism, with its millions of dead? Eh, Pope?
yep
This has been obvious to anyone with a shred of objectivity since moment one, but we have had to go through a period where conservatives Catholics have been forced to come to terms with the fact their Vicar of Christ is a marxist. The longer Francis hangs around as Pope, the more conservative Catholics will probably abandon the RCC. They almost have no real choice.
None whatsoever
