Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Penn.) warned Monday that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walkers dissonance with his wife on same-sex marriage could cause him to be less active in his opposition.
Spouses matter, Santorum said in an editorial meeting with The Daily Caller.
When your spouse is not in-sync with you particularly on cultural issues, moral issues [you] tend not to be as active on those issues."
Walker panned last months Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage nationwide as a grave mistake where five unelected judges [took] it upon themselves to redefine the institution of marriage.
But while those views may put them in the majority of the Republican presidential field, which Walker is set to officially join Monday evening, hes on the outside looking in at the Walker household.
Walkers wife, Tonette, told The Washington Post that her children are very passionate about their support for same-sex marriage and noted that her cousin, to whom she is very close, is a lesbian. While she never specifically said she backed same-sex marriage, she noted that she disagrees with her husband on some issues and called the issue a a hard one.
Santorum is currently running towards the rear of the crowded Republican primary, 11th in the ealClearPolitics aggregation of recent polling. That would put him one spot out of the first Republican debate in August, which caps at the top 10.
But the runner-up for the nomination in 2012 believes he should be allowed to participate in the debates no matter what the polls say.
I call it the Masters exemption, (snip)

Santorum is last year’s newspaper in the birdcage of politics.
Sometimes Santorum seems kind of girly-catty. JMHO
And what does that make Hucka-rino???? _:)
I hope the RATS think this avenue of thought is going to be a winner, and use it....
Insert Admiral Akbar meme here.
Seems hypocritical since
Santorum endorsed Mr. RomneyCARE last election,
who is the original AUTHOR and IMPOSER of
gay-Romney Marriage on the American people,
when he pushed it down the throats of the Clerks.
I really don't care about Walker's wife. That Bush's wife is a Mexican citizen, that's a problem.
Santorum is a real loser. Pathetic.
He makes a valid point.
Go wash your sweater vest Rick.
I like Santorum and it is not a cheap shot. It is an honest observation that has already been proved true.
I sincerely appreciate Rick bringing this up and I wholeheartedly agree that spouses DO matter and if she’s that rabid about gay sex, he is NOT my candidate.
Shut-up, Sweater Vest!
Santorum is of the school that all Republicans must support the nominee. I do not share that view, but neither will I fault him for it.
Did Walker support Romney? Do you care, or was it just a slam of convenience?
and I will also point out that, if he is a Christian, as he claims, he’s completely unevenly yoked as no TRUE Christian advocates for gay marriage.
This is NOT a safe or good candidate IMO>
So, what, he won’t hold gay marriages at the White House? That’d be a pleasant change.
Well, I DO care about the wives’ point of view and beliefs. Ever heard of pillow talk? Look at the havoc the Wookie has foisted upon our schools. And, for the record, most all of the Republican presidents’ wives have been pro-choice. You can google this information. Even Laura Bush. However, she never voiced her opinion publicly. This causes the husbands to dance around the issues. Sorry, but, it DOES matter.
Perhaps so, but I’d venture that Rick and his wife don’t agree on everything either. Is he tipping his hand that she could run him. That could easily be his basis for thinking Walker’s wife could run him.
Santorum is too cute by half here IMO.
“Fissures”? Ouch. I had one of those once.
I don’t think he is saying Walker’s wife could run him. I think he is just pointing out that Walker may be an Obama/Clinton/McCain/Romney on the issue. Walker shows every sign of being one who is against it for political reasons only.
The candidate whose wife runs him is Jeb.
I can tell you this, if my husband had had the opposite view as me on that issue, we would have had some real big fights over it. Fortunately I was blessed with a smart husband.
