Wednesday on The Stephanie Miller Show, former President Jimmy Carter said because of the stupid Supreme Court ruling in the Citizens United case, America has become a plutocracy.
Carter said, The basic structure of our moral values of the framework of our democracy has gone down the drain in the last twenty years or so and its now become pretty much a plutocracy where money determines who will be the Democratic and Republican nominees. Money determines who will win election for Congress or for the U.S. Senate or for the governorship And the massive infusion of money that has come into the political process because of the Supreme Courts stupid ruling on Citizens United has resulted in using a lot of those funds for negative commercials to tear down the reputation of our opponent, which generates animosity, which carries on into Washington so its a very horrible thing that happened to American political systems.

The old fogy got something right for a change. Too bad he didn't blame his own party for the bulk of the change. The Supreme court was just one of the last domino's to fall.

Jimmy, I don’t think you want to be using that word.

Carter is so stupid he doesn’t realize he and his party are responsible for all this.

Coming from former president Jimmy Carter this is significant. After all, who knows more about stupid than him, except maybe Joe Biden.

This may be the first time that I agree with the second worst President in history.

I’d say “nihilocracy”, just judging by the way the current POTUS is “leading”.

Not quite right ... this is a REPUBLIC, not a Democracy, Jimmy. Sorry if you don’t know the difference after all your years of service (?) to it.

Don’t agree with you.
The Citizens United case opened up the electoral process for everyone.

Actually it just limited conservatives. There are plenty of other “Decisions” that preceded this, it’s difficult to point to just one.

The US has been a Plutocracy since the Gilded Age, right after the Civil War. Carter just noticed.
Geld regiert Amerika. Headline in an Austrian newspaper, 1969, for an article about the book The Rich and the Super Rich
Before it was a Plutocracy presumably it was a Neptunocracy.
