Editors note: "2016 Debate Watch" is a running, bi-weekly series.
This week weve seen Jeb Bush and Donald Trump gain some momentum. Carly Fiorina, meanwhile, recently turned some heads as well, cracking the top ten for the first time ever.
If the August 6 Fox News debate were held tonight, however, only the following candidates would make the (prime-time) cut. (See the debate rules here):
(1) Jeb Bush: 15.0
(2) Scott Walker: 10.6
(3) Marco Rubio: 9.4
(4) Ben Carson: 9.4
(5) Mike Huckabee: 8.0
(6) Rand Paul: 8.0
(7) Donald Trump: 6.0
(8) Ted Cruz: 4.8
(9) Chris Christie: 3.8
(10) Rick Perry: 3.4
Editors note: The five polls used to calculate these averages can be found here, here, here, here, and here.
Cruz is against same sex marriage, Trump is ambiguous about it.
There are five polls in the list.
Two are from before or when Trump announced.
Two are more recent. The more recent polls are 12% for Trump, and 11% for Trump.
We already all heard of those. The old polls are lower. There is one (the last) which I didn’t see a date, and don’t care to search hard for that.
This headline is (very, very, very) deceptive.
Trump is at 12% and 11% in the most recent two polls it appears.
Right where he has been.
Gee, i guess i will change my Cruz vote to Jeb. He obviously has this locked up. I don’t even care what he stands for.
They have been on board The Cheap Labor Express for a long time.
I haven’t been following Jindal very much, hardly at all, but Carly is a monster against Hillary and very much focused on only Hillary. That’s a basic the others seem to think is secondary. I’m not sure that’s very smart.
“Amen. My exact choices also, for removal. Ha! :)”
I forgot! We need to “off” the Pillsbury Doughboy too!
Here are the polls they are using without having to go to each one individually.
Real Clear Polotics keep a running total on these polls......
Polls are nothing but political speech with the results aimed to make a conclusive statement. In no way are polls reality. Never have been.
Consensus is not science.
I would say FOX prime time is issued to it’s most moderate liberals, O’Reilly, Greta and Kelly. Kelly covers the stuff of conservative interest to pull in the ratings, but I view her as, privately, a big supporter of the socially liberal agenda .
Thanks.
Turns out three of the five in this poll, were from before (concurrent for one) Trump even entered the race.
Three of the five.
“I believe FOX is now a strictly Establishment operation.”
Not is this instance as they are going by polls to select the ten for the debate. They aren’t deciding who will make the cut. They have made some arrangement for the others not making the ten top list, to have a discussion of some kind - I don’t have the details about that, but I heard Hannity ask Trump if he would attend the “discussion” group if he didn’t make the top ten.
Well, yes, of course! But, since he is treading water up to his mouth anyway and bleeding support, he can be our charitable contribution.
His block of voters are the same as Hillary’s. Unfortunately. They are practically clones of the other, as candidates.
The two of them could fight to the death over the same donor base, and that seems to be what both sides of the DC Establishment want to see, both Democrat and Republican.
And, FOX.
(Hillary has the woman card to play, which would likely beat Jeb in the end.)
I think they have to allow Carly in. One of the bottom 3 will be bumped off to make room for her.
Isn’t the first debate next month?
Yes, Kaslin was saying these are poll driven numbers and not the FOX opinion poll.
However, my sense is that FOX is now a strictly Establishment political supporter. I believe they are Jeb Bush all the way.
Mostly because FOX is not all that conservative on social issues. FOX looks at every other reason for our collapse but for the moral ones and our rejection of tradition and religion. imho.
Donald is not a conservative, Cruz is. Other than that you are close.
I don’t know, I think she has to earn her place in the top tier, according to the FOX invitation rule. However, Bret Baier indicated FOX will try and sponsor a second tier debate.
I think Carly will bring a little following of her own and great interest to a second tier debate. FOX may even find the second tier brings just as big an audience as the top tier.
