The national debate over the Confederate flag has now turned toward Scarlett OHara.
New York Post film critic Lou Lumenick said Wednesday that Americans should think about relegating the 1939 classic Gone with Wind to a museum.
If the Confederate flag is finally going to be consigned to museums as an ugly symbol of racism, what about the beloved film offering the most iconic glimpse of that flag in American culture? Mr. Lumenick asked. Im talking, of course, about Gone with the Wind, which won a then-record eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture of 1939, and still ranks as the all-time North American box-office champ with $1.6 billion worth of tickets sold here when adjusted for inflation.
The movie, which starred Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh, sends the wrong cultural message because it stands for many of the same things as the Confederate flag waving before the movies intermission, Mr. Lumenick said.

It probably won’t happen, but I don’t rule it out someday. WTF is happening to the country?
That critic can shove his silly little PC ideas up his Obamahole.
It is being transformed by LIB maniacs...but, then, I repeat myself.
Actually communism is a better candidate for a museum.
Everyone is a victim... except white Christian males. You can disparage them all day long.
Well I’m glad we have our copy. Pretty soon we’d have to watch it in our basement so the fed’s don’t know we have a copy. But frankly, I don’t give a damn.
Guess what, I was right and didn’t even know it. What’ll they think of next?
America has become silly.
Pretty swift there ... LOL
That doesn’t make sense, people don’t go to museums to watch movies.
I’ll think about that tomorrow.
I love that book/movie. I have been reading my copy almost every year since high school (several hundred years ago). So well-written. It's one book that I am sad when I am done reading it....it's that good.
Fiddle-dee-dee
Song of the South has been self censored by Disney. They never show old Stepin Fetchit or Amos and Andy movies or TV shows anymore. They don’t show Charlie Chan movies anymore. I would not be surprised to see this happen.
Its ironic to see liberals wanting to censor old.movies. Liberals claim to be so.open and tolerant. They accuse conservatives of wanting to censor TV and movies if we say anything about homosexual content or sexual or violent content. Yet they won’t hesitate to censor what we see in movies and TV if they get the power to do so.
The US is now in the Wilderness for forty years
The Book Thief was about a bunch of Nazis. Better ban that.
That had to be a racist film. They gave Hattie McDaniel a Best Supporting Actress Award. The first black person to receive such. Oh, the huge manatee.
