Texas Sen. Ted Cruz writes in his new book that conservative voters would be astonished if they knew what Republican senators were really doing and saying in private meetings on Capitol Hill.
During my time in the Senate, Ive been amazed how many senators pose one way in publicas fiscal conservatives or staunch Tea Party supporters, for exampleand then in private do little or nothing to advance those principles, Cruz writes in his new book, A Time For Truth.
Indeed, if transcripts of our Senate lunches were released to the public, I think many voters would be astonished, the Republican presidential candidate writes.
In the introduction to this book, Cruz specifically criticizes the Republican leadership in the Senate for how they dealt with the issue of raising the debt ceiling in early 2014.

I am astonished by what they do in public.
Arm-twisting is similar in the House.
Recall the Medicare Drug Bill. Hastert called for a 15-minute vote. It was two hours and 45 minutes later before the 4 or 5 hold-outs apparently got the increased perks they were demanding. The bill passed with a couple of extra votes.
If the vote had been held under the ‘rules’ [15 minutes], it would have failed.
It’s the rare conservative that KNOWS or CARES how his/her Senator VOTES....
Their happy with a smile and groomed hair... if they have any..
” thin coat of paint’ it is more like a fresh veneer that has been applied to deceive, because underneath the veneer that is easily removed by the democrats the true nature becomes evident!
Sorry Ted but no one on this site is surprised in the very least.
So, Ted ...
You’re telling me that most professional politicians are lying, backstabbing, power-hungry petty (or not-so-petty) tyrants? Swaggering, overbearing, tin-plated dictators, with delusions of godhood?
I’m kinda not surprised.
[[
So, why did Cruz say TPA gives Obama powers and created an amendment to eliminate those powers, then voted for TPA even thought his amendment failed?
]]
Because apparentkly, (and im no expert on the issue) it gives him or any republican the chance to neuter it once in power- had it not been done, it would have been worse- I don’t remember exactly the details- but that is the simplistic jist of it-
THATS IT! TEDCRUZJUSTLOSTMYVOTE!
AGAIN!
Who does this guy think he is exposing the lesser evils as the greater evils they are?!?!? My God the FR Liberal wing is gonna go after him now!
Can’t have their liberals or themselves exposed as the frauds they are.
Agreed. Their actions speak way louder than the lies.
Names, Ted, names.
A great pilot. He took down more American aircraft than most NVA.
Some of us aren’t surprised - that is why we sound so frustrated and mad.
I don’t doubt anything he writes.
But why isn’t he standing in the well of the Senate saying it? Or on the steps?
Doing it in a book? I respect him for saying it, but ehy not say it to their faces?
God love you, Ted...but I bet I wouldn’t.
Actually it's Cornyn, but as Lyndon might have said, "Son, they're all my seats."
Senators would be astonished to know what their constituents scream out loud about in public and private.
