US Catholics ready to follow Pope's 'marching orders' on climate change

Leaders of the Catholic Church in America took their “marching orders” from the Pope’s encyclical on Thursday, fanning out to Congress and the White House to push for action on climate change.

The high-level meetings offered a first glimpse of a vast and highly organised effort by the leadership of America’s nearly 80 million Catholics to turn the Pope’s moral call for action into reality.

“It is our marching orders for advocacy,” Joseph Kurtz, the president of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Archbishop of Louisville, said. “It really brings about a new urgency for us.”

Another misleading MSM headline. Have they even read the encyclical? I doubt it. Environment is only a small part of it.

Besides … this is not dogma. It’s not “marching orders.” Should we take care of our planet? Sure! Is man at fault for climate change? No! We contribute a very, very small part if any. The climate has been changing since the day the earth was born. The pope should know this.

Not this Catholic. The Church learned absolutely nothing from the consensus on geocenticity.

Lots of people understand it. Pretending that a papal encyclical is not useful to The Enemy because it does not fall under the circumscribed limits of infallibility per se is equally "doltish."

this pope does not understand the the logical extension of the climate change hysteria that declares CO2 a pollutant is... population control!

Really? He doesn't?

The “encyclical was mistranslated” crowd appearing in 3 ... 2 ... 1 …

No. Actually it wasn’t "translated" enough. The media are harping on only the environmental part of it. There’s way more to this encyclical than climate change hype.

Here’s a guide article.

He is speaking to all members of his denomination, and they vote left.

You are every bit as I'll informed as the Pope.

God. I knew someone would drag up Galileo. Of course, the one exception that proves the rule is used to bludgeon Catholics. The Church sponsored and harbored scientists and artists during the middle ages and the Renaissance. Meanwhile, most Protestants seem to believe the world is only 40,000 years old.

Lots of people REFUSE to believe it.

In which case, they are not -- in your words -- "dolts," simply obstinate. And their obstinance has a purpose. But I see you do not address the broader issue: even if not covered as an infallible pronouncement, this encyclical causes actual harm.

As silly a statement about "most Protestants" as many of the claims made on this thread about "most Catholics."

Yeah, right, and Pope John Paul the Second said: No, no, keep it up! And continue to enslave Eastern Europe.

Considering the number of Catholic sects we have now as opposed to 1455, I think a bad pope matters less-not every Catholic walks in lockstep with the pope any more, and excommunication lost its sting centuries ago when it was overused-people figured out that the pope is human-and now the excommunicated person/persons would just go to one of the Orthodox churches, which makes excommunication ineffective. And only God can deny anyone salvation-not the pope or any leader of any other church.

People are less inclined to listen to a rogue pope-many of us know our history-and he is increasingly becoming irrelevant as anything but a tool for a communist/socialist political agenda...
