If Rachel Dolezal Duped Us Into Believing She's Black, Blame Ourselves
Los Angeles Times ^ | 6/13 | Frederik DeBoer

I's hard to think of a more bizarre story, or one more representative of contemporary America, than that of Rachel Dolezal. Dolezal is an academic and activist who represented herself as African American for many years, earning a degree in Africana studies, even ascending to the position of president of the Spokane, Wash., chapter of the NAACP.

As police killings show, the African American community needs more change As police killings show, the African American community needs more change Dolezal's parents, however, have recently made matters uncomfortable for her, telling the media that she is in fact Caucasian and showing photos of her as a younger woman with blond hair and blue eyes. The NAACP is standing behind Dolezal, stressing that “racial identity is not a qualifying criteria or disqualifying criteria for NAACP leadership.” But there are additional questions regarding, among other things, her position on a local police council. When applying to the Spokane police ombudsman commission, she indicated a racial category of black, which if untrue would violate the city ethics code.

Dolezal, for her part, acknowledged that her biological parents are two self-identified Caucasians, but has thus far refused to elaborate.

The story has predictably been catnip to our pundit class, provoking commentary ranging from the outraged to the sympathetic to the amused. Almost everyone, however, has been shocked — shocked that someone would act this way and shocked that someone could pull it off. I am shocked that people are shocked. Rachel Dolezal was inevitable. We made her.

I haven’t seen anything reported indicating that she has any black ancestry at all. Is 0% ancestry sufficient to self-identify as being black? For leftists, I suppose it is — can’t let the truth get in the way of the agenda.

You see it, I see it...most people with INTEGRITY see it.

Yet, as we watch the media and liberals they contort themselves into some sort of deluded fantasy that justifies this woman’s scam.

I propose her scam likely broke some laws. On who did she exercise this fraud? What applications did she lie on to obtain her education, jobs, or careers?

All of that is fraud, premeditated fraud. Consider simply the hundred’s of thousands of dollars in student loans, paychecks, benefits, etc. Consider any normal employer would fire her and prosecute her for fraud.

Instead the whole collectivist world is hailing her a hero? She’s nothing but thief!

The next thing you know the US Government will be inventing a whole new race based on Spanish speaking cultures.

All laws reflect someone’s morality. Is it going to be yours, or theirs, that’s the question.

Why not? If racial designations were sane, I would think one would have to be over 50% descendent of slaves (that's not all blacks) to even be able to make victimhood claims. It's the whole concept that's flawed. The concern shouldn't be, and it never should've been, victimhood of ancestors. The claim should be for EQUAL opportunity, level playing field, with no consideration of background.

If Bruce Jenner can be a woman, I'd think we can be what we want to be.

The world has gone insane.

Absolutely, the problem being that they won’t admit it.

It’s illegal to question someone’s claim of minority-hood.
