(2013) Republican Immigration Critic Gets Slapped Down(By Cruz)
National Journal ^ | May 14, 2013 | Fawn Johnson

The most potent illustration that Republicans have shifted their attitudes on immigration came Tuesday morning when all GOP members of the Senate Judiciary Committee rejected an amendment from Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., to severely limit the number of legal immigrants allowed into the country.

The committee’s overwhelming ‘No’ vote shows that the battle for Republicans’ souls on immigration has shifted away from groups that want to reduce the influx of foreigners, like the Heritage Foundation, NumbersUSA, and Fairness for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), toward free-market groups that applaud increased immigration, such as Americans for Tax Reform and the CATO Institute.

But it was a big surprise that those rejecting it included hard-core tea-party senators who are almost certain to vote against the immigration bill--Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, Mike Lee, R-Utah, John Cornyn, R-Texas, and Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa.

Lobbyists were buzzing about the vote as the committee broke for lunch. "Can you believe it? That was amazing," said one lobbyist. "It was a smackdown. That was the defining moment," said another.

Scott Walker agrees with whatever he thinks will get him the nomination. Ted Cruz has core convictions that aren’t easily changed. That’s the difference. If you liked John Kerry and Mitt Romney, you’ll love Scott Walker.

Please show me one action that Walker tojas governor still was not solidly conservative.

Do not much .2 words were recordings or speeches. Show me one thing that Walker did that was not conservative.

You cannot find it.

Maybe a simple cartoon illustration will help you figure out what I'm saying.

Steve King is involved in construction and he knows better than anyone how much a border fence will cost.

Do these people think Cruz is just going to put a bunch of numbers in his giant brain and go... poof... border secured.

What does that even mean?

Why is Cruz an expert on building a fence?

Some posters say Cruz will secure the border and Walker wont.

Neither of them seem to be construction experts.

Cruz is dodgy on immigration in general, but this article is two years old. As I read it, I assumed this was something that happened today and that Cruz was once again speaking about tripling H-1Bs.

That it's that makes it seem less bothersome since it's not new, news, or some new discussion. When something that old is posted, it should be noted in the title line.

You can’t be that stupid. Name even one “construction expert” with the possible exception of Thomas Jefferson, who has ever been elected president? What does being an expert in construction have to do with it? Was FDR a physicist? No, of course not! But somehow we built the world’s first atomic weapons. Were JFK, LBJ and Nixon rocket scientists? No, but we went to the Moon, didn’t we?

We will need a highly-skilled workforce to expedite our recovery with the next president. As we know, the free public education of this country is horrible. What does it produce? Fewer and fewer highly-skilled graduates. It will take a generation or so to produce highly-skilled graduates of our own to participate in our economic recovery. Meanwhile, we have to borrow some of those from other countries.

For companies which are abusing H1B visa program, shame on them. There is a law against what they are doing already, but if the administrative branch doesn't enforce it, “what difference, at this point, does it make?”

At this point Cruz could not buy my vote. But neither could Walker or Rubio.

Cruz is owned by a few Billionaires including an Austin TX Semiconductor magnate who want Lots of Cheap slave labor rather than hire Americans.

Cruz is your typical sleazy bought off political hack like his pen pal Paul Massive Amnesty Ryan.

These two dangerous creeps want to be President .
Can you imagine the damage these two crooks could do.

“For the Republic to survive, the GOP must die.”

And then what, genius? We have thousands of patriots/conservatives coming up through the local and state GOP ranks to take out the traitors in the federal government. And you want to destroy that?

When we hear the H1-B program described, it is always that they can be used only if there are no unqualified Americans for the jobs. Then we hear about Con Ed and Disney bringing in H1-Bs and having their experienced workers train their replacements.

You'd think someone would be arresting executives at those two corporations for such violations. How can it happen? I've heard that ascribed to "loopholes", but never heard the detail about such loopholes. I don't know if it's loopholes or a refusal to enforce the law.

There's a real debate whether there is a shortage of STEM workers in the US. I tend to think there is no shortage; big corporations just want more to choose from and cheaper workers.

The people who run the GOP woud burn the party to the ground before ceding control to conservatives.
Watch them nominate Jebster, then get back to me about how we’re taking over the party.

I’ll also bet they do not oppose existing LEGAL immigration levels.

There is too much immigration of all kind. We need a 10-20 year halt to all immigration to sort out this mess.
