BEIJING (Reuters) - A Chinese state-owned newspaper said on Monday that "war is inevitable" between China and the United States over the South China Sea unless Washington stops demanding Beijing halt the building of artificial islands in the disputed waterway.
The Global Times, an influential nationalist tabloid owned by the ruling Communist Party's official newspaper the People's Daily, said in an editorial that China was determined to finish its construction work, calling it the country's "most important bottom line".

They did already start it. On June 25, 1950.
We lost nearly 100,000 KIA so far in that not Cold War.

Also a good number of their relatives have American blood lines. We did our best to modify their national gene pool from 1898 to 1992.
Most typhoons in the PI area tend to swing north and weaken as they exit PI.
A typhoon strong enough to wipe out structures on artificial islands West of PI's main Islands would have left PI in much worse shambles than their normal.

Obama will indeed have a legacy. Stagnant economy, 92 million Americans out of work, federal reserve interest rate trap, the rise of ISIS, the fall of secular dictators such as Qaddafi, Mubarak, soon to be Assad, the fall of Yemen to Iranian proxies. Aggression by the Chi-coms in the South China sea, the Russians in Crimea/Ukraine..soon the baltics. His legacy will be a failed, expensive government run healthcare system, a racially divided nation. Will include the greatest influx of illegal aliens across our southern border...damn, I could just keep on keepin on about his legacy.
If China wants to defeat us it knows it must be done while King Putt is still in office. China knows that is its only chance to win.
Obama will ponder at great length what he should do and then decide on a course of action that will do the greatest harm to the United States and any other country that is our ally or even the nationalist Vietnamese.

Why fight a war when the Chicoms can do to us what Reagan did to the USSR, sink our economy through control of our debt and an arms race. Couple this with America's apparent lack of will to defend itself or its allies, China will be able to dictate their desired outcome. The incompetence rests with America's leadership, be it Obama or a Republican. Pax Americana is over.

The Filipino genome has an order of magnitude more Chinese in it than Caucasian. A heck of a lot of Filipinos are Chinese mestizos. And the Caucasian part is much more Spanish than American, in spite of the best efforts of the US military.
The current Philippine president Aquino is himself a Chinese mestizo, with a bit of Spanish.
The Chinese element in the Phil’s. is not a bit sympathetic to the ROC.
Yes, the Philippines usually acts as a typhoon buffer for the China coast.
We dirty Americans tried but the Spanish had a few hundred years head start.

Those islands they are building are influential, and they are building mutually supportive air bases with jettys, piers, etc.
But, they are static places which could be easily targeted if it ever came to it.
Short of us attacking them for simply building these...we are not going to stop them. it is basically happening in their Caribbean, and they have the money, the equipment, and the will to keep on doing it.
In essence what they are doing is taking the reefs that they occupy, most of which either barely above the high tide line, or n0ot at all...and dredging missions of tons of sand onto them and creating islands...and then improving them with structures, vegetation, etc. so they can have these mutually supportive bases.
The only way we could counter it...and it would take leadership, salesmanship, influence, and will...none of which Obama and his administration has...is to form a coalition with Austrralia, Japan, and India, and then provide assistance through loans and engineering firms to help Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam, etc. counter the Chinese reclamation, with reclamation of their own so that their own influence jointly counters and equals the Chinese there on the ground (so to speak) in the SCS.
But Obama is incapable of this.
As it is...our new P-8As are getting some great exercise and experience. Our vessels are passing close...and the Chinese just keep on building.
Unless someone miscalculates in a major way...there will not be any fight. the Chinese do not need to. they are using commercial vessels and engineering to do this reclamation and building...and then populating the new islands.
