It will be interesting to see what the mainstream media will make of an essay written by avowed socialist (and Democratic presidential contender) Sen. Bernie Sanders in 1972, in which he claimed, among other things, that a woman fantasizes being raped by three men simultaneously. Heres a forecast: Sanders, because hes on the Left side of politics like the mainstream media, will get a pass.
Still, his campaign has already begun trying to put some distance between him and the tome. His campaign spokesman, Michael Briggs, said the article was a dumb attempt at dark satire in an alternative publication that in no way reflects his views or record on women.
It was intended to attack gender stereotypes of the 70s, but it looks as stupid today as it was then, Briggs told CNN.
And yet, Sanders penned it anyway.
The 1972 essay, which was first revealed in a profile by Mother Jones, was published in the Vermont Freeman, an alternative newspaper from Sanders home state.
It ran the same year that Sanders ran for governor of the state as a member of the anti-Vietnam War Liberty Union Party. He lost the race, but was elected mayor of Burlington in 1981.
Have you looked at the Stag, Man, Hero, Tough magazines on the shelf of your local bookstores? Do you know why the newspapers with articles like Girl, 12, raped by 14 men sell so well? Sanders wrote. To what in us are they appealing?
The article goes onto say that a mans typical fantasy of a woman includes her tied up and abused.
A man goes home and masturbates his typical fantasy, wrote Sanders. A woman on her knees. A woman tied up. A woman abused.
Sick, Bernie. Just sick.
CNN continues:
Sanders analyzes the dynamics of sexuality and relationship between men and women, including a seemingly made up conversation between a couple about their deteriorating relationship.
And they never again made love together (which they had each liked to do more than anything) or never ever saw each other one more time, he wrote.
In the statement, Briggs said that the essay surfaced as a result of Sanders presidential ambitions.
When Bernie got into this race, he understood that there would be efforts to distract voters and the press from the real issues confronting the nation today, the spokesman said. He is determined to run a campaign that takes on the big problems facing the American people and not a campaign of salacious gossip and innuendo.
Thats rich a left-wing Marxist politician complaining about a left-wing Marxist magazine that published an honest expose that included details about a paper that the candidate himself actually wrote. You cant script this hypocrisy any better.
But now comes the real test: Will the left-wing punditry crank up its outrage machine and turn it loose on the chronically rumpled Sanders with the same ferocity it would most certainly generate for any candidate on the right? Indeed, will the Left show any indignant emotion at all?
Sanders can complain all he wants about how unfair the press is and about how distracting this story may be to his candidacy, but this essay certainly generates a number of questions that Americans should be asking and have a right to know.
Like, what state of mind must you possess in order to even think of such things about rape and women? And regardless of voting records, does Sanders still think such thoughts about rape and women? He says no, but how can we be certain?
After all, Bill Clinton has chased skirts his entire life; age hasnt tempered his lust one bit. Or generated much outrage from the Left.
Thats probably because the Lefts papers and pundits were far too busy dissecting Mitt Romneys dangerous 47 percent comment. Or reporting about Sarah Palins phony target scandal. How militant.
As for the mainstream media, any scorn heaped upon the various news networks and legacy newspapers that wont make an issue of this deserve the mounting distrust and loss of viewership/readership they will endure. They have earned every bit of the disdain.
In the meantime, let it be known that we had no problem pointing out a) Sanders disgusting diatribe and b) the fact that this story will only get play outside of a mainstream media that seeks to protect its Left-wing stars with the vigilance and strength of a Praetorian Guard.
Hypocrisy, anyone?
After the pass Obama got for longtime political association with Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright and his attacks on the Constitution (he was on record saying he didn’t like how it limited the powers of government), what difference does ANYONE’S past writings or associations have in the current presidential election?
Nope, I’ve got some hard left Facebook associates. They write is off as youthful fantasy writing.
Bernie Sanders' typical fantasy is a bit different...
He goes both ways AC/DC-USSR...
All of humanity tied up and abused on its knees.
This article was published about the same frame as GWB DUI incident...
since the left considered that ancient news as proof GWB was unfit to be POTUS..
I’m sure they will call on Bernie to withdraw his bid for the democrat nominee / S
He will get away with it unless he steps on the wrong toes....say Hitlery if the powers that be want her as POTUS.
Leftist Bill Cosby, serial rapist, got away with it until he pushed his “Black Responsibility “ not so leftist creed one too many times at the wrong venue.
It was time for all the previously silenced ‘actresses’ to come forward....egged on by who knows who
I'm going to guess that Sanders has not conducted a survey of men for their masturbation fantasies, and is talking about his own fantasies.
Naturally.
I think it’s true. At least for the ones who vote Democrat.
But he will get the LGBTx vote! They will make him a poster child.
The MSM won't do anything.
Will they punish team Clinton for the way they treated Willey, Jones, Broaderick, Lewinsky and others?
He’ll get a pass. But if Rush reports on his show that Bernie wrote an article about women fantasizing about rape, the press will report that Rush said that women like being raped.
It only solidifies his credentials as a democrat.
I only could find that Sander’s first wife left him around the time of this essay. Can’t find any details about her not even her name. The News Cartel appears to have covered for this demorat socialist for years.
“The issue is never the issue. The issue is the revolution.”
—David Horowitz, quoting unnamed SDS leader.
He says it was satire. Frankly, after reading it I’m inclined to believe him.
He couldn’t win the nomination before and he still can’t, but if he did, how sweet it would be.
No need to cover for Bernie; people in VT will always believe in him.
