The president of the Boy Scouts of America on Thursday called for an end to the group’s blanket ban on gay adult leaders, warning Scout executives that “we must deal with the world as it is, not as we might wish it to be,” and that “any other alternative will be the end of us as a national movement.”
At the same time, religious organizations that sponsor a majority of local Scout troops, including the Mormons and Roman Catholics, should remain free to set their own policies for leaders, said the president, Robert M. Gates, the former director of the C.I.A. and the former secretary of defense.
Mr. Gates called for the changes at an annual national meeting of the group, in Atlanta. He said that he was not yet making a formal proposal but that the Scouts’ governing body should take up the issue formally at a future meeting.
The treatment of gay men and boys has been a source of wrenching debate over the last decade. Conservative religious groups that sponsor many Scout troops, including the Mormon Church and the Roman Catholic Church, have opposed the participation of openly gay members while local leaders in more liberal areas have called for an end to the ban.
In 2013, Boy Scout leaders from across the country voted, with more than 60 percent approval, to say that no youth may be denied membership “on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone.” But it left intact the policy that no openly gay adults could serve in the organization.
Since then, a Scout group in New York has defied that policy by employing an openly gay leader, and several other groups around the country have expressed opposition to the ban.

Most people think that when we do these things God will withdraw His Blessings. I think these things happen after God has withdrawn his Blessing.
IMO— it is because there is a vast underground of pedophiles throughout our governmental bureaucracies. Dirty old men who like little boys mostly. The word for them is queers.

Gates showed one redneck kid how it was! BSA needs to go with three-deep leadership, just to make it harder for the perverts to pair double-team kids on camping trips. Better, they could man up and say that, no, BSA is not a candy store for predators. It’s sad what has happened to a formerly great organization.

Of course, they are I old school terminology, “camping” but they wouldn’t go far without factors on the inside of the U.S. Camping isn’t lazy either, but it involves abstaining fr a brute force assault on the main enemy.
Translation: corporate sponsors are getting heat for contributing to a "homophobic" organization. Not bowing before the LGBT activists will mean the end of HQ staff being able to get big paychecks.
Better to abandon big corporate sponsors and have the HQ be staffed by retired volunteers, than do this. If they do this, it will be the END of scouting. Period.

I grew up in an environment where almost all my friends were Cub Scouts and then Boy Scouts.
I shudder to think how vulnerable we all were on those long hikes and camping trips.
But we never had a single questionable incident.
Our leaders were some of the finest people I have ever known.
They provided guidance, education and protection.
They did not prey on us.
The Scouts are an organization dedicated to serving the young scouts.
Their safety and well being are paramount.
Not the frail egos of homosexuals who want to pretend they are normal - but just in a different way.
I am not that old. But I can remember a day when this country wasn’t run by perverts and Communists. It was a MUCH better place. It’s all down hill culturally from here, short of national repentance before God.
Robert Gates is preemptively determining that statement. The thing is he claims that they have to keep up with the times and that legal action will somehow be a nightmare if they don't allow the gays in full force.
He must not have a clue as to the amount of legal action and loss of revenue the Boy Scouts will experience due to them opening the canvas of the tent to the perverts. Yeah, I said it - PERVERTS!!!

I wonder how NAMBLA played into all this. I understand they may have played a role in helping the liberal gay community in establishing credence in our society. I also understand Nancy Pelosi marched along side with the founder of the San Francisco Gay Parade, who just happen to be a supporter of NAMBLA.
