A top contender for the Republican presidential nomination cashed out his retirement savings to pay some nagging bills for a broken refrigerator, air-conditioning unit, and his kids' private-school tuition.
According to The Washington Post, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida) sold $68,241 worth of retirement funds in September after bills began piling up at home.
It's a risky move since it incurs a significant tax penalty.
It means that he is probably on some level living above his means, because he is borrowing against his future, Boston University economist Laurence Kotlikoff told The Post.
When asked about his finances on Fox News, Rubio blamed the high costs of running for president as well as expensive and unforeseen family costs.

A broken refrigerator DOES NOT run you $3,000.... seriously what the heck is he smoking?? not even a brand new one costs that much.

Is this the guy we want in charge of our trillion dollar budget?
Here’s one principle to look at before nominating a candidate: How does he manage his own household finances?
Heck, even St. Paul gave us principles in choosing a Deacon for crying out loud!
“A deacon must be faithful to his wife and must manage his children and his household well.
“If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?” (1 Timothy 3:5 )
Same principle applies. To paraphrase St. Paul....
If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of the GOVERNMENT?
Its none of your business what Rubio does with his finances.
So he is doing what most Americans have been forced to do under Obamanoics.
Pray America is waking
Oh, My. I struck a nerve, LOL!
I thought Rubio explained that this was just one of a few retirement accounts he has and did not need anymore.
I am not a Rubio supporter. But facts need to be told!
It’s his money......................
In the same financial disclosure, Rubio reported earning between $100,000 and $1 million from his latest book, so whatever he’s more than recovered the funds withdrawn from his 401K.
If we lived in a sane world, the same press that is breathlessly examining Rubio’s finances would be more interested in how the Clinton’s made a fortune by peddling interest—and selling out this country in the process. They might also show a little more curiosity about Zero’s ghost-written books and how a political unknown got big, upfront money for those “efforts.”
Of course, this is the same MSM that told us this week the Obamas have only $1,000 in their savings account, while ignoring the $1 million tucked away in other investments.
RE: Its his money......................
Sure it is. But isn’t this an indicator of how he’ll spend OTHER PEOPLE’s MONEY once he gets his hands on it?
It may also be an indicator of how dedicated he is to getting the nomination...................
LOL! The original poster of this article/thread said the very same thing. Better ping them as well and tell they’re a busybody, too.
It’s only polite! :)
The problem for Rubio is that “lefty rag” or not the article was factually correct. Rubio has acknowledged it.
I don’t like Rubio one doggone bit, but how is this condemnation justified with the knowledge media had about a broke d!ck community organizer who had to graft a developer for his mansion property, foist his wife off on a University Hospital to a $300K job doing nothing but convincing poor trash to go somewhere else, and have rabid socialists ghost write a couple fake books any different here?
The only thing I can see here is that Rubio at least was trying to take care of his liabilities within his own means. That is CERTAINLY not something this half black community organizer has ever done.
Journalist and undercover political operatives. I think that Shakespeare line (so often quoted out of context but widely used in that vein) should be rewritten.
“First, Kill all the Journalists.............” [legally, this is an adaptation of a well-known quote not intended to convey or imply any intention to do so. There - due diligence.]
Those scriptures are exactly what came to mind when I read this article. Clearly, he is not the Steward we need to lead us out of the current mess.
I don’t care about his personal retirement funds. I do care that he and the rest of the Uniparty are, with unconstitutional spending, running up debts that this generation cannot possibly repay, thereby robbing our Posterity of their God-given, unalienable right to government by consent.
A broken refrigerator DOES NOT run you $3,000
OH YES THEY DO, All day long. Obviously you don’t own a Traulsen or Sub-Zero. Repairs are routinely $1500-$2500 on both of these Refrigerators, Almost NEVER under $1000, they also cost $10000-$15000 to purchase EACH, that is for an All Refrigerator or All Freezer, they have Refrigerator/Freezer Combos STARTING at $15000, Most people have either 2 or 4 of them, usually 2 refers and 2 freezers.
I am sure Jebbie will be happy to pay off his debts and offer him VP in exchange for his drop out/endorsement right before, say, the South Carolina Primary.
RE: I am sure Jebbie will be happy to pay off his debts and offer him VP
How’s that gonna work? Two FLORIDIANS in a ticket?
I am sure he has an address outside of Florida he can file with. If not Jebbie has plenty.
Apparently the mean unlike Harry Reid, who became a multi-millionaire while working on a government paycheck
Rubio actually pays his bills? stunning...
