A venture capitalist associated with Mark Zuckerbergs immigration lobbying group Fwd.us insulted American workers who lost their job to foreigners at a recent immigration event, saying they got what they deserved.
You know, Im relatively crude on that, capitalist Lars Dalgaard said at the National Journal event that was partly sponsored by Fwd.us, which lobbies for more legal immigration and a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants. Its like, if you want the job, make yourself able to get the job, you know?
Dalgaard, who Fwd.us boasts is one of its major contributors, had been asked by the Journals Niharika Acharya to respond to concerns about hundreds of American workers who were recently fired by Southern California Edison and more or less forced to train their foreign replacements.
Like, nobodys going to hold you up and carry you around the world, Dalgaard continued.

“We brought over the Irish, the Chinese, the Italians, the Poles, you name it.”
They weren’t “brought over” they gambled their and their descendants well-being on their ability to grasp the opportunities offered by a new land. No guarantees no safety net.
Diminishing the economic status of Americans through immigration is an underhanded back door method that elites are using to gain unfettered power.
It really does take a middle class to hold our political class accountable. The MC doesn’t take guff from politicians and the MC votes. Countries with large numbers of unemployed and people in poverty are not often big voters nor informed. That’s their goal.
I have had many conversations from supposed conservatives over the years that absurdly were convinced by corporatists to back the outsourcing and exportation of our jobs, as though it was good for America. Reality is it was good only for global companies that should have no right to even lobby our Congress. Conservatism is not global corporatism that wants open borders. They are opposites.
I’m pretty certain that 90% of all foreign business - particularly offshoring - is rife with corruption. For one thing it’s the perfect vehicle for the ruling elite to launder money into offshore bank accounts.
Well, to start, the media propaganda machine is controlled by multinationals: they are not loyal to Americans. They support foreign business interests over interests of American workers. You will have a hard time selling this to the people without the media.
Exactly. My son just got his Chemical Engineering degree from Purdue. He said the work to get the degree was grueling, and a lot of American kids aren't willing to stay up until 3 a.m. on Friday nights doing calculations to get that degree. But the Asian kids are. His commencement program read like the Shanghai phone book.
Thots?
Were ALL Free Agents. Always have been, always will be, no matter where we are in this world.
My advice? Get your sorry @ss some MARKETABLE skills. CREATE something or DO something or KNOW something that people will PAY you to create/do/know for them.
Be a Problem Solver!
Same as it ever was...
Not sure how many of your family members or friends are looking for tech jobs, employed in technology or perhaps unemployed in technology....but what you say is much easier said than done in this economy...
Many of the tech workers have gotten their “sorry @ss some MARKETABLE skills,” but they are being replaced due to unfair labor practices (H-1B visa workers are not supposed to be replacing qualified US workers) and unfair wage competition (indenturing the foreign workers because they must be sponsored by a company to work here, so they can be underpaid and overworked as they cannot easily change companies).
Oh, and many displaced US workers have “CREATEed something or DOne something or KNOWn something that people will PAY them to create/do/know for them”. However, they are often working two jobs or part-time jobs as companies have resorted to hiring part time workers to avoid Obamacare, etc.
As it has often been repeated, in this day and age of increased regulation and global competition, companies such as Microsoft, Dell, and Apple would not have been easily started if at all...
Fewer and fewer jobs are safe...getting MARKETABLE skills will become more and more difficult when one is competing with a low-paid foreign worker, a computer with AI or a robot can do the job 24/7 with no health insurance required....
I seem to recall that you work in agriculture/
horticulture. You may be interested to know that some say that human plant breeders will soon become obsolete as computers can do a better job of picking particular varieties, etc, so agriculture jobs in Wisconsin are not immune to dislocation. My point is that no jobs are immune and although I know what you say can be done, it is smug to imply that it is easy...don’t worry about quadrupling H-1B visa workers in this soft economy ...
just learn some skills & be a problem solver...as anyone on FR knows, the world is a very complicated troubled place....
Just saw this post #19...it epitomizes what I am talking about...
Yeah, great. Family around the corner who are devout Christians and homeschool just lost their income because Indians were chosen to do the IT work for cheap. The dad is trying to keep the lights on by doimg freelance work.

My thoughts- people without jobs cannot buy goods, no matter how cheap. And putting money into the pockets of people like the Chicoms is sowing dragons teeth.
They find ways to try to say there were no qualified American workers. Like they did in Las Vegas driving out teachers.
Then the Republican governor signs a bill so they can hire illegals as teachers.
Well they drove out good teachers. Had principals making 6 figure salaries writing up teachers for anything and imposing new rules to make it easier to write them up. So they get rid of already tenured American teachers.
Now bring in the illegals.

Major political Parties support their corporate paymasters. Its a race to the bottom for 99% of us, a race to the top for 1%.
a16z is another example of silicon valley liberals running the roost, but is that is par for the course these days.
This is more proof the powers that be, from both parties, want this country destroyed. Bush won. His daddy said There is a new world order.
H1Bs dont make less. Get American kids to start getting STEM degrees and we wont need to hire H1BS. Until then, we need more H1Bs.
IT manager- 18 years
However, according to my son, IT worker in Cali, they do make less. BTW, all my family members have STEM degrees (2 PhDs, 1 BS/MS, and 1 AS/BS) and they all say H1B visas are affecting US jobs and salaries.
You are talking about kids getting STEM degrees, yet there are many displaced tech workers...read about Disney and Edison—they are not easily finding work.
I am one of those Freepers that doesnt want the federal government to subsidize American workers by blocking cheap labor or discouraging outsourcing. In the long run, our country is as strong as its economy. I want America to stay strong.
The tech companies are clamoring for foreign workers because of a supposed shortage, yet there are more and more examples of US works training their foreign replacements...who then become unemployed. I don’t think this is strengthening the US economy....
IMHO, one of the great strengths of our country and economy has been the strength of our middle class—which is being squeezed by government regulation, foreign worker competition, A/I and robotics.
This is the reason why Governor Scott Walker will be the next President of the United States.
The problem we face is that to employ an American a company is required to pay an additional 30% in taxes regulations and insurance. I can outperform any foreigner. But not when I cost two or three tmes as much. The only solution is for government to stop treating business as a golden goose. Instead business should be treated like the blessing that it is.
Wow, good for you.
I am assuming you have a very unique skill set that no qualified US worker possesses in order to fill position as per immigration regs...
Oh and this is not what appears to be happening now as per Disney, Edison, etc.
Diminishing the economic status of Americans through immigration is an underhanded back door method that elites are using to gain unfettered power.
