Actress and liberal activist Susan Sarandon is still blaming America’s homeless problem on Ronald Reagan. The actress, probably best known for her role in the 1988 baseball hit movie Bull Durham, was invited on the May 13 edition of PBS’s Tavis Smiley to plug her son’s 2014 documentary, Storied Streets, that is now available on AMC’s streaming service.
When Smiley asked Sarandon why the issue of homelessness was no longer on the “radar for discussion” she blamed former President Ronald Reagan, as seen in the following exchange:
TAVIS SMILEY: There was a time that I recall where the issue of homelessness was at least being discussed in our society. There was this moment, I think that the moments kind of ebb and flow, but how did the issue of homelessness fall off of the radar for discussion?
SUSAN SARANDON: I think that the conversation changed around the Reagan era, where everything was your fault. And so you blamed, you were blamed for not trying hard enough, you know, from drinking, for drugs, whatever. Just like in the AIDS epidemic the focus went on your lifestyle as opposed to what was actually happening.
And then I think that as the economy got tougher for so many people it’s understandable. It’s the same thing that happens with immigrants. You know, you are trying to hold on to the house. People - there are so many people in this country that are one paycheck away of being on the street, and if they can’t couch surf long enough, they are homeless.
So when you have so many people working so hard. Two jobs per family, three jobs per family, they don’t want to think that that’s them. You know? And there is also compassion fatigue. So people see it and it doesn’t get solved. And they just don’t want to see it any more. And everyone is fighting so hard. And I think - so it’s been a number of things that have happened, that have made us not want to deal with this issue. But hopefully what Jack’s film does is it humanizes the issue and it puts a face on that.
Reagan has been out of office for over a quarter of a century, and he still lives rent free in the heads of the most damaged Leftists.
50 years from now, they’ll still hate Reagan and Bush for all the ills of the nation they have ripped apart.
Of course the act of ripping it apart will be seen as negligible cause, if any, for any damage.

And what exactly, is ‘(dammit) Janet’ doing to help the homeless? From what I’ve read of her ‘activism’, none of it involves a single dime of her money helping the homeless. Hypocrisy, the name is Sarandon... Hypocrisy, thy name is ‘progressivism’.

If she wants to play the BLAME game then why not remind everyone it was DEMOCRAT LYNDON JOHNSON who as President in the 60's created the "Great Society" and its MANY freebie programs which many say has lead to where we are today.
It took us 50 years to get to this point of screwed up in America and Reagan had NOTHING to do with it.
Working as an RN and getting homeless drug addicts/alcoholics as patients when they finally get well enough to leave we try to place them in shelters.
They usually don’t go. Shelters allow them to stay but no drinking no alcohol or out you go.
So they don’t want to go. They prefer to go to the street looking for their next fix, or drink or both.
Maybe all the homeless can move into Susan’s big a@@ mansion..oh yeah, almost forgot, she wouldn’t want them
And how much have she and her fellow libs given to help this situation? Oh wait.....they’re too busy watering their yards in la-la land while the state is in a drought.

I can remember in the ‘60’s when the lame-brained equivalents of Susan Sarandon still blamed Herbert Hoover for problems brought on by the policies of FDR.

Bitch doesn’t even know recent history. The California legislature during Pat Brown’s term passed laws making it illegal to put homeless, transients and the mentally ill into psychiatric hospitals against their will. This came as social fallout from the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. When Reagan came into office as gov of California in 1967, he had a pile of legislation to sign from the previous term. One of those laws was as explained above. The homeless problem subsequently exploded, and liberals latched onto the meme that Ronald Reagan caused it. I still hear this lie spewed by libs almost fifty years after the fact.
