Right before its fatal derailment on Tuesday night, Amtrak Train 188 accelerated significantly as it approached the Frankford Junction curve, the National Transportation Safety Board said Thursday.

Maybe because sliding wheels will derail easier than rolling ones. Like a skidding car. Just saying.
Listening to the audio accompanying the video at the link provided by poster #8, an NTSB official is being interviewed about talking to the engineer and the NTSB official nervously replies “of course he doesn’t have to talk to us, we can get information from others”. What the hell kind of statement is that when you are looking at a train crash with fatalities and the engineer is alive and well and appears to have acted improperly in controlling his train?? Another article today on Associated Press was a puff piece lauding the engineer on his love of trains since childhood and repeating comments made by the engineer on the internet regarding need for additional train controls. With no mention of his gay rights activism and presence at gay marriage protests. The article also included quotes attesting to Brandon Bostian’s character from those who knew him in college. This is all very interesting. Looks like if you are a member of the rainbow coalition and are fast tracked into a job you are not qualified to hold you are teflon coated.
If true it sounds like it was done on purpose.
Remember that destroyer that blew up that killed a bunch of American service men 20 or so years ago? I remember hearing that was a jilted gay doing a suicide\ homicide.
All the school shootings, greenwings etc have one thing in common:
ANTIDEPRESSANT DRUGS.
Do amtrak locomotives have crew alerter systems?
If they do, then this guy would have been required to keep hitting the acknowledge button to keep the train moving forward.
With a crew alerter system, if you don’t acknowledge the audible and visual warning by pushing a button on the control stand, and the alerter times out, then the locomotive will drop power, and the air brakes will apply in what is called a “penalty application”.
I don’t know about amtrak, but a penalty application against an engineer is usually a career ender.
When he pulls the brake, the front brakes before the back, sending the back slamming into the front and C R U N C H.
I heard it on the radio.
Got a link for that?
That's why it was the commies' plan.
I would figure trains have emergency brakes like elevators do. If they speed up too quickly the brake engages and slows the car down. (Think of how a seatbelt works in a crash.)
Bostian has all lawyered up. When the hell is someone going to have the cojones to ask him why he had the throttle open at over one hundred miles per hour?
But first charge all the police officers on the scene with extreme brutality which caused the engineer to be intimidated and he could not focus on his job.
Basically what i called a dead man switch.
Suicide by locomotion.
Real question: does this particular RR have overhead power for locomotives equipped with pantographs? Catenary effect refers to wire dip between the towers IIRC.
Takes me back to the old PRR electric locomotive, the GG-1.
It was mental illness until they got a bunch of money with lawyers and lobbied to be considered normal.
Callanan has a theory as to what may have caused the derailment. He says that particular curve is a known trouble spot for kids throwing bricks and rocks at the train.
I believe it is possible something was thrown at the train, broke the window and knocked out the engineer. He could have slumped forward on the throttle and accelerated the train," said Callanan.

Would certainly be consistent with the other train getting hit with a projectile....
People didnt want to believe that a Pilot sworn to protect innocent lives would take a plane and crash it into the French Alps..if it wasn’t for the fact that there was audio proving the other pilot was locked out of the cockpit people would have thought this was a horrible accident..unfortunately you get whack jobs flying planes and whack job engineers driving trains
But of course the media is going to want to make us believe that the train was working perfectly til just at that moment when it was turning, yep that’s when it malfunctioned..and I have a bridge to sell ya
