Right before its fatal derailment on Tuesday night, Amtrak Train 188 accelerated significantly as it approached the Frankford Junction curve, the National Transportation Safety Board said Thursday.

Germanwings: plane sped up before impact.
A glimpse into the data from the cab mounted forward looking video camera....
Somebody posted that the engineer shouldn’t have pulled the brake before the curve. Does anyone know why?
Suicide?
I assume the train had a dead man switch. That means he sped up on purpose when he should have been slowing down. I have upgraded the charges against the engineer from involuntary manslaughter to murder one.
Suicide attempt by the conductor?

Mass suicide by train and forced diversity.
The engine & cars up front tend to slow down first and cars in the back accordion into them.
It doesn’t seem likely that he intended to survive the wreck.
Wannabe Germanwings Pilot..no one thought it would be possible for a Pilot to want to deliberately crash a plane killing hundreds..well here you have the same circumstances but an Engineer, he was probably pissed that he was still alive, probably woke up and said “Oh sh*t Im still here, I am SO screwed”
or terrorism.
Well I’ve read different times that up to half of gays try and commit suicide at least once.
Can that really be an issue here though, because why would he want to take it out on the whole train full of people?
Putting the brakes into emergency application will lock up all of the axles, like a car going into a skid. You basically lose all control of the forward momentum. This guy did everything you could possibly do wrong.
The engineer complained on line that the tracks weren’t safe enough. He was disgruntled maybe?
Any additional info on the “projectile” that hit the train 20 or so miles before it jumped track?
Driver got distracted, disoriented, hit the throttle by mistake or ??
60 to 100 plus is pretty rapid acceleration in a short time.. Any downhill grade effect?
You really dont want to think it was intentional.. But it isn’t as rare as it used to be.
Doubt it was attempted suicide. Maybe he wanted to prove to Congress that more funding is needed for Amtrak. Either way, the guy is nuts.
A caller on Mark Levin's show, who claimed to have been a former engineer, said that because of the way brakes are arranged on trains, hitting the emergency brakes at high speeds pretty much guarantees the following cars will hit the engine and cause a derailment... if I understood him correctly.
