Two men were shot in a parking lot outside the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland Sunday afternoon, SWAT officials told News 8.
Those men possibly had explosives on them, SWAT officials said. Everyone at the center, which was hosting a Muhammad Art exhibit, was told to find a safe place inside the building.
SWAT members were at the scene for the event.

He may be hired security. Texas does boast several merc firms and we do allow full auto ownership. Geller said she’d hired a lot of security for the event in addition to the local police.

Private security can also carry in a school, legally.

Besides, this event may have been in school building but school was not going on.

Per what I’ve read, yes. The discussion about “he looks like a soldier” and police militarization was referring to another person pictured upthread, not the wounded officer.

Local NBC news just reported that the Garland ISD officer who was shot has been discharged from the hospital.

The contest had a $10,000 prize for the best draw Mohammed picture.
It was also held at a location owned by the Garland School district that had rented it out for a “rally for the prophet” Muslim event a few weeks ago, where they essentially protested criticism of Islam after the Charlie Hebdo killings.
The choice of venue was intentional, and the building had lots of people who had drawing images of Mohammed (often in a satirical way) and many more to view them or hear Geert Wilders or Pamela Geller speak.
The Muslims targeting it was also intentional.
