...How clueless media applause excuses police brutality
Praising a mom for beating her son suggests only violence can discipline black kids. And she doesn't feel heroic
Baltimores Hero Mom has a name. Its Toya Graham.
And the woman lionized nationwide for beating her 16-year-old son on camera, and dragging him away from Monday nights riots, doesnt feel at all like a hero.
I dont. I dont, Graham told CBS This Morning on Wednesday. My intention was just to get my son and have him be safe. Later in the interview, Graham confesses, I just lost it. (Watch the whole thing at the end of this post.)
Her moment of losing it made her a hero to much of white America and not just to the right. Coast to coast, the media is hyping Graham as Hero Mom and her on-camera beating as Tough Love. Its not just Fox News or the New York Post, whose tabloid Send in the Moms front page this time reflects rather than rebukes the mainstream media. And thats heartbreaking.
The debate over the moment Graham says she lost it is complex. Theres a parallel black debate going on that, as always when it comes to racial issues, is richer and more nuanced. But anyone white whos applauding Grahams moment of desperation, along with the white media figures who are hyping her heroism, is essentially justifying police brutality, and saying the only way to control black kids is to beat the shit out of them.
Im aware that a lot of African Americans are lauding Graham, too. This piece isnt directed at them. Whether they applaud or critique Grahams corporal punishment,

Of course not! You would be a VERY bad liberal to ever question the actions of a black person.
The same mentality leads Arab women to strap bombs to their sons.
>>Respect and even fear of the authority of parents is what built Western civilization. <<
It takes both carrots and sticks; neither used alone does the full job.
It is no coincidence that the Hebrew word translated “fear” [The Lord] in the KJV means both fear and revere(nce).
OT:3374 yir’ah (yir-aw’); feminine of OT:3373; fear (also used as infinitive); morally, reverence:

Well, there we have it: the official White Guilt pronuancement.
Joan Walsh, you included the word "beating" 4 times in your article. Do yourself a favor and look up the definition of "beating". What I consider the "Mom of the Year" simply slap him a few times upside his head with an open palm. Hardly a beating. A black mother tries to put her fatherless child in line and you call it abuse.
You and your liberal types have been the problem for decades. Wake up.
YOU are the problem with black youth criminality. The Mom is the solution.
What is hideous is her article.
I haven’t paid much attention to this Baltimore kerfluffle because I have seen it all before (back when that black communist adulterer got whacked), so forgive me a question: was Mom using a baseball bat or her hands?
Joan is an idiot, and hates Black Moms.
Open hand slaps.. and she had to reach up. Her son was much taller than she. For what it is worth.. if it was my son.. I would have done the same thing.
Here's a dirty little secret for you: None of these people give a damn about your child.
Oh, they may believe they are caring but the truth is all they really care about is their own sensibilities. It makes them uncomfortable to see or hear of a child being spanked so they want to get rid of it to make themselves feel better. Then they will go home and go on with their lives and forget about your kid because your kid is not their problem. But you will see your child get hurt or get in trouble or turn into a maladjusted person from lack of discipline.
The truth is a person who equates proper child discipline with real violence has a screwed up moral compass. They can not tell right from wrong and so they come up with these catch-all rules.
One more thing - Yes, this woman was not spanking her son, she was slapping him about the head. But she wasn't really trying to hurt him. She was scared to death he was going to get himself killed and she wanted him to obey her immediately. That is how you spank a teenage/nearly grown man. A smack on the behind doesn't work when your kid gets that big.
Isn’t this the family Joan and her Marxist comrades want? The obvious problem is the mom was barely able to hit him due to her lack of size. Fortunately he was small enough for her to have some control, in another year he would have simply laughed.
That is why you need a father in the house.
Pray America is waking
“Woah, where did THAT come from? You have some sort of context for your slander,”
Joan “Talisker” Walsh, I made no slander.
“or is that just a Catholic thing you do when inspired to be a part of the Armies of the Lord?”
I was simply telling the truth. What Joan Walsh does is what you do.
“What’s the deal, tough guy? Just bored, or did you take too much viagra again?”
Ha! Yeah, my post struck a nerve. Clearly you realize the truth of it.
I was uncomfortable because I didnt know if it was offensive to the A-A musicians
was one of those songs ‘Kingdom Coming’ (de Massa run, ha ha, de darky stay ho ho)...?
great tune...
That kid was not fixing to participate in a friggin RIOT!
yes, it was a pretty bad analogy at that, wasn’t it...she’s apparently not very good at expostulating...
Yep!
“.....the only way to control black kids is to beat the shit out of them.”....
To bad we can’t do the same things to liberals, they sure as hell need it.
My only problem with what I have seen in the interviews with mother and son is that the focus has been on her concern with protecting her son’s safety. I would like to hear the kid say also that he now realizes that throwing rocks at the police is wrong.
