CONFIRMED: Court records show Freddie Gray was receiving a structured settlement from Allstate Insurance and attempted to convert it into one lump sum in early March
EXCLUSIVE: The Fourth Estate has learned that Freddy Grays life-ending injuries to his spine may have possibly been the result of spinal and neck surgery that he allegedly received a week before he was arrested, not from rough excessively rough treatment or abuse from police.
The Fourth Estate has contacted sources who allege that Freddy Gray received spinal and neck surgery a week before we was arrested, and was allegedly receiving a large structured settlement from Allstate Insurance. The surgery is allegedly related to a car accident in which Gray was involved.
Sources allege that Gray also attempted to refinance his structured settlement into one lump sum payment through Peachtree Funding.
If this is true, then it is possible that Grays spinal injury resulting from his encounter with the Baltimore Police was not the result of rough-handling or abuse, but rather a freak accident that occurred when Gray should have been at home resting, not selling drugs.

When you really love your career it’s hard to stay away from the job.
I’ve watched the arrest videos and heard some alleged eyewitness testimony. The scenario as I’ve heard it is that he was on foot, was chased by three officers, one of whom was on foot, the other two on bikes. One eye witness says that after he was caught, an officer had a knee on his neck, and the evidence of trauma followed that. The knee to the neck would have been physically insignificant on a healthy individual, but potentially a disaster for someone with a compromised spine.
So I think this goes down that the police will be held to account for failing to recognize a serious medical condition, even if Freddie was irresponsible in being out and endangering himself. Once in custody of the police, they have a heightened responsibility for his physical well-being. There is also (unofficial) testimony he tried to say he couldn’t breath. It is possible this was something the police have heard before from healthy individuals, and they didn’t see any health issues. They also can have individuals who resist by failing to cooperate physically, or who are under the influence of drugs and limp for that reason. It would be something that would go to the training of the officers in distinguishing these behaviors from a genuine medical crisis. I see liability here, but not necessarily malice.

I have lots of comments about this sick place, and the exploiters of race violence.
But it will take time.
First I want to know how many tens or hundreds of million$ of taxpayer funds were destroyed, and why the residents and the resident scam artists, including black ministers are so blithely announcing that "it doesn't matter, we'll rebuild!"
Not with my tax dollars you damned criminal parasite!
What difference does it make?
OH wait.. :-)
Without donations. FR would cease to exist.
Lump sum donations gladly accepted.
No, Peachtree pays a lump sum in exchange for the stream of income from a structured settlement. The recipient pays high imputed interest rates.
J.G. Wentworth is similar. You have probably seen their commercials.
Why are they different case #’s?
Yes. The case I posted involved Fredericka Gray, Freddie's twin sister. The two cases were filed (and resolved) on the same dates, were otherwise on the same schedule, and involved the same other parties (Peachtree and Allstate). That's the whole point - they were companion cases, that likely involved the same underlying structured settlement.
So, we know that (a) Freddie and Fredericka Gray sued their former landlord re: lead paint, (b) that case settled, (c) their landlord had am umbrella policy with Allstate that covered lead paint claims, and (d) the Grays' structured settlement was with Allstate. Based on that, it seems pretty obvious that their settlement with Allstate was related to the lead paint claims, and not to any prior spinal injury.
Here’s the thing for me: If any of us had caused Freddie Gray’s death because of even an innocent act on our part that exacerbated his previous condition we’d be up on charges for at least negligent homicide.
If we’d bound him and thrown him in the back of a van and then taken him on a ‘nickel ride’ so he got tossed around in the back of the van we’d be up on charges of first degree murder.
A badge should not be an excuse or a free pass to commit crimes that anyone posting on this topic would NEVER get away with.
ROFL!! Thanks.
I knew a kid in high school who was involved in a car wreck where all the kids were underaged and unlicensed. After they wrapped around a pole, he was the only one conscious and to avoid the police, he ran home about two miles away. A day later, after learning he was also in the car, the cops showed up at his home and took him to the hospital. He had a broken neck and had to wear a halo brace for a year and a half.
Your entire post is premised on the assumption that he had spinal surgery. There is NO evidence he did. None.
Gret work.
Mod: How about adding “See BS exposed in 144” to title?
I seem to remember something about a lead paint settlement in the news. Until this is confirmed by a reliable source, it may be pure speculation.
IOW, it wasn't an Obamacare death panel that killed him, it was a Baltimore PD death panel.
Crap, I'm going to hell over that one.
Bingo
Is this one of those “I once knew a guy who...” stories?
So far no credible sources for this; it’s just bouncing around in the ultra-right blogosphere echo chamber:
If he had spinal surgery that recently, it’ll show up in autopsy. We’ll know then.
