12:40 p.m.: Remarkable, on-the-spot video from WGNO-TV of the train falling off the track at Huey P. Long Bridge embedded below; see our report here.

They redid it 2 years back. Three lanes across makes it smooth sailing now.
I’ve been over the bridge a few times. It is a bit intimidating. I avoid it if I can.
Looks like some more storms developing. Hopefully nothing as severe.
(tinfoil on)
FIRE UP THE HAARP ARRAY!!!
(/tinfoil off)
It looks like that red bow part of the storm is going to stay over the Gulf which is great.
So far here in FL we just have some nice rain and a little thunder and lightning.
Nothing like the other day.
“But yeah I dont think Ive ever heard of a train being blown off the Huey P before.”
Saw that pic...
The cars appear to be double-stacked containers, all but one of which were empty.
Here is another link for this story with comments. Someone explained and it could also be seen in the picture that some of these cars were double stacked and more vulnerable to wind pressure. From the video, you can see an electrical flash from a light pole and the Cane’s sign temporarily goes off, then back on.

My power remained on. It was dark as night, but the worst missed me a bit to the south. Just goes to show that New Orleans can’t handle THUNDERSTORMS-you think everyone should come on down, live and invest, when hurricane season threatens?? Even the airport is shut down-planes landing but no takeoffs. Electrical failures all over the place. Wind is still gusting above 40mph and here comes more thunderstorms. Incompetence everywhere. New Orleans ASPIRES to Third World status.
Just stop talking. Heavy thunderstorms like this would shut down any airport.
Please let me know cities you know of that can defy the laws of nature and physics. High winds blow stuff over in other places also. How would other cities have “handled” thunderstorms? I no longer live there but I spent most of my life there and yes the city has gone down but to blame outages etc on the city is stupid. I guess in other cities they don’t shut down airports in stormy weather. Are you for real? Do you even read what you write?
Shutting people up on FR? Good luck!
That shows you the last time I was there. Maybe 15-20 years ago.
Thank you.
This could actually improve New Orleans.
This could actually improve New Orleans.
One of the worst things and best things to ever happen to New Orleans was Katrina. A lot of the worthless thugs were forced to leave. Unfortunately, so many of the ones that left made other cities worse off.
“Someday a real rain is going to come.”
Here is the interview with the photographer with multiple runs of the video. He had gotten out of his car and taken shelter in the restaurant but left the camera which was pointed towards the bridge running. He was at the right place at the right time.

I am in awe of the wind. Impressive it could blow something like that over.
