A 14-year-old boy has been killed and eaten by a lion as he lay guarding his familys crops in north-eastern Zimbabwe, a report said on Wednesday.
The boy, whose name was not given, was snatched by the lion in the early hours of Monday in Mariga Village, near Zimbabwes border with neighbouring Zambia and Mozambique.
He was in the company of his uncle when the incident happened.
They were sleeping in the field guarding [the maize crop] against rhinos, elephants and buffaloes, Peter Enock Chapoto, the local chief, told the official Herald newspaper.
Usually we build a watch tower so that those manning the field sleep on a high place. However, the boy was in the company of his uncle and they decided to sleep on the ground. The lion came and attacked him before dragging him away.
He said only the boys head had been recovered.
In 2010 a UN agency had to provide tents and other relief for 100 families that were displaced after five lions from the Dande and Chewore safari areas attacked and killed four people in the same district
Sorry. My bad.
It’s so sick how people hunt and murder these poor kitty cats
They should be prosecuted and stand trial for serious jail time

Prayers to his family...
Question, why would anyone lay down on the ground in Lion country without an RPG.
“He was in the company of his uncle”
Proving once again that you don’t have to run faster than a lion, you just have to run faster than your companion.
Racist Lion!
Didn’t he get the memo? Black Lives Matter?
WTF?

Should have just put up a “No Lions” sign
Lions should be forced to wear body cameras.
Wow. I wonder what the Euroweenies are going to do about THAT.
Once the word gets around Africa that there are no lions in Europe they’ll be able to walk across the Med on the boats, there’ll be so many of them...

The penalty will be a LOT lighter than sleeping on guard duty. ;-D
Another victim of gun control.
I bet this teen was not getting paid $15/hr
As a form of reciprocation and on a lighter note, I heartily recommend Fandango, an early Kevin Costner movie directed by Kevin Reynolds. It became a family favorite for my household.
