Nashville - Speaking from the 144th annual NRA Annual Meetings Friday afternoon, potential GOP presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson attempted to clarify his stance on the Second Amendment.

"For the record let me make it extremely clear that I am extremely pro-Second Amendment and that I would never allow anyone to tamper with that right," Carson said.

"We will never let the right to keep and bear arms be removed from those [generations] who follow us in this great nation," he continued.

FAIL! Sorry Dr. Ben. It ain't brain surgery. If you have to keep clarifying your stance on the 2nd amendment, then you are NOT the candidate. My congrats on your many accomplishment over the years, but maybe you would be better suited for the sturgeon colonels job in the next administration.

From what I recall about what he’s daid, when you start to equivocating about restrictions and what the citizen should be allowed to have based on locale alone, you have stepped into the ‘enemy’ category for me. Take it to the curb, Ben.

Agreed. If you have to say you are not sure what kind of weapon the average citizen should be allowed to own then you have no understanding of the 2nd amendment and probably are not a big proponent of it.

Surgeon General would be a good job for Carson. Not President.

Which candidates continually need to “clarify” their positions?
.
Walker, Rubio, Paul, Perry, Bush, Christie . . .
.
That’s my list, not necessarily inclusive. If anyone disagrees, please enlighten me.

A man that decides on abridging my rights naturally given to me and affirmed by the Constitution isn’t honorable in my book.

This clown has no business running for president. But the affirmative-action wing of FR will beg to differ.

Give the poor guy a break, at least he is not severely pro-Second Amendment. /tongue-n-cheek

Ben spends WAY too much time having to clarify past remarks. Doesn’t bode well for a Presidential campaign.

Here’s another example that may need “clarifying” before all is said and done:

“Certain communicable diseases have been largely eradicated by immunization policies in this country and we should not allow those diseases to return by foregoing safe immunization programs, for philosophical, religious or other reasons when we have the means to eradicate them.”

Cruz is the one.
Walker isn’t bad.

All the other candidates are a complete waste of time.

Give it a rest friend this man will never be president. Dr. Carson is a brilliant neurosurgeon but a dunce politician and way over his head in public policy.

I agree. I greatly respect Dr. Carson, but I don't think he has the qualifications for the top job. I would like to see him given some role in the next Republican administration.

"Which candidates continually need to “clarify” their positions?"

More to the point, which candidates never have the need to clarify their positions? Of course, it's the ones with a "D" behind their name, even though logical contradictions flow from their tongues so often that it should make Aristotle spin in his grave.

Carson should run for the open Maryland senate seat.

extremely pro-Second Amendment

That is right up there with Romney's "severely conservative".

==

I do not understand why Carson is getting such high polling numbers in the various straw polls. White guilt among conservatives? Carson is the least politically qualified wannabe.

The next prez is going to have to have a strong political background to clean out the Obamaites and Clintonites entrenched in high government offices and to handle Congress while repealing Obamacare and other Obama policies.

We have seen, for the last 6 years, how disasterous an OJT president can be.

Why does it ‘need a rest?’ Why are we seeing this now amidst real candidacies from real viable candidates. Brilliant neurosurgeon doesn’t make a hill of beans when he’s been offered a platform and voice to abridge my rights.

The best thing is to just have him or whoever is still promoting him for purposes other than to move him higher in the political world is just leave it the heck alone. We don’t need these diversions.

I'm not interested in Carson for president, but as far as I can tell the man earned everything he has, accomplished more than most and is hardly a product of affirmative action. He's done far greater things in his life than 99% of FReepers.

I disagree with him on a few things, but the character assassination on FR of a decent man who deserves better here is a bit unsettling.
