A federal judge on Thursday ordered California's corrections department to provide a transgender inmate with sex reassignment surgery, the first time such an operation has been ordered in the state.
U.S. District Judge Jon Tigar in San Francisco ruled that denying the surgery to 51-year-old Michelle-Lael Norsworthy violates her constitutional rights. Her birth name is Jeffrey Bryan Norsworthy.

On June 11, 2012, President 0bama nominated Tigar to be a United States District Judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of California...
The Senate confirmed his nomination by unanimous consent on December 21, 2012. He received his commission on January 18, 2013.
Dude, a convicted murderer doesn’t deserve to have delusions satisfied, they can do their own sex change, if they have the muscle to pull it off with no sedatives and fully conscious.
Prisons will even become more attractive havens for the depraved then they are now. Think about it, a convict can marry his same sex partner, and the state will set them up in a cozy little love nest on the prison grounds (after all, they will have a “right” to their martial privacy, the LGBT zealots will see to that). All the comforts of home, who would want to leave that situation?
“Give California to Mexico, and see if theyll pay for it.”
BEST ANSWER.
So.... why did he/she/it wait until age 51 to decide which ‘sex’ it wanted to be ?
Why? Because he earned a sex change operation? Why does everybody else have to pay for this BS? I want a Ferrari. Maybe a judge in California will make everyone pay for one for me.
This is old and worn-out, just like the Democrat Party. The Democrat Party is a bunch of old fogeys sitting around trying to find relevance by behaving in more and more bizarre ways.
“I order that this cat be made King of California! I order that the taxpayers of California pay to build a water slide from Sacramento to Los Angeles. I order it to rain more so they have water for that.”
And Ill be sure to use a double layer of rubber gloves.
Note that Constitution-respecting justices have historically condemned interpolations of the Constitution.
3. The Constitution was written to be understood by the voters; its words and phrases were used in their normal and ordinary as distinguished from technical meaning; where the intention is clear, there is no room for construction and no excuse for interpolation or addition. United States v. Sprague, 1931.
I want to go to jail to get my penis enlargement surgery paid for.
A 100K then what? he will be in general population in a all male prison?
It should be noted that as recently as 2010, Jeffrey Bryan Norsworthy not only filed cases in federal court using his 'birth name' he also identified himself as male in the pleadings. In that particular case, he claimed he was outed as a jailhouse informant and was requesting transfer to federal custody as he was in fear of his life due to the negligence of California correctional authorities.
That case was dismissed, but shows the absolute lies in both the reporting of this story, and in the case itself. He did not identify as a female since 1990, he was identifying as a man as recently as 2010. And likely the entire case is built as a vehicle to get him transferred out of the prison where he is currently incarcerated.
Offhand, I can think of at least 5 reasons.
Where in the Constitution does it say the mentally ill have a right to be genitally mutilated on the Government's dime?
Look at the nomination date. Dec 21st. You can bet most of the Senators were already home for the holidays. Unanimous consent is cover when Senators don't want to be held accountable. It can occur without a legal quorum being present. Who was the Senate majority leader that allowed such a vote? Dingy Harry.
I'm pretty sure that if he/she/it just asked, there are plenty of other prisoners who would volunteer to perform the 'removal'.
Good catch.
I think they should use the judge’s mouth for the sex change.
If not that, I think we need a ruling by and impartial judge, how about sending the POS to Iraq and getting an opinion from one of the ISIS commanders over there.
This ruling is beyond insane. There is NO medical right in the Constitution, period.
I don't understand how 'rights' and 'prison' can even be used in the same sentence.
