Two Latino groups on Monday rejected the presidential candidacy of Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, saying that he could alienate Hispanics from that party even more given his "anti-immigrant" stance and his rejection of President Barack Obama's executive action measures on behalf of undocumented immigrants.
Cruz, a senator from Texas who was born to a Cuban father and an American mother, on Monday became the first politician to officially announce his intention to run for the White House in the 2016 election and, if he wins, he would be the first Hispanic president in the country's history.
The Dream Action Coalition, which defends the rights of young undocumented "dreamers" who benefit under the Deferred Action, or DACA, program announced by Obama in 2012, on Monday expressed its "rejection" of Cruz and said that it was "sad" to have to position itself in that way vis-a-vis the first Latino to announce his presidential candidacy.
"The only policy of Ted Cruz that Latinos hear is that he wants to do away with DACA for the dreamers, block (the associated) DAPA (program) for our parents and obstruct immigrant reform for years longer," said the co-directors of the coalition, Cesar Vargas and Erika Andiola.
DAPA is the program announced last November by Obama that will benefit undocumented parents whose children are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and who can prove that they have lived in the country since before Jan. 1, 2010, and do not have a criminal record.
"Although Ted Cruz has a Latino name and immigration in his past, there the similarities between the Latino community and him end," said Vargas and Andiola...

Actually, Ted Cruz is very much in favor of immigration. Legal immigration.
I’ll bet you Cruz is gonna reach out to LEGAL immigrants!
The ILLEGAL ones can pound sand!
The LEGAL immigrants don’t like having to wait in line to see their fellow ILLEGAL countrymen jump in line and make their waiting and sacrifice meaningless.
He’s “anti-ILLEGAL immigrant”
There, fixed it.
Obama Bucks has Two Latino groups pockets full
How is Cruz anti-immigrant when he is in favor of attracting more technical and skilled people to this country?
Gee, two groups supporting Obama’s exec amnesty don’t like Cruz.
I’m shocked......
Two brown KKK groups which don’t even include La Raza, Maldef and Mecha. I suppose they will be weighing in tomorrow.
Ted won 40% of the latino vote in Texas when he ran for office. That’s 400% more than what other republicans have won in elections there.
And Ted is for sensible LEGAL immigration.
The Latino groups referenced in this report that are bad mouthing Ted are leftist groups funded by the democrat organ SEIU.
“The Latino groups referenced in this report that are bad mouthing Ted are leftist groups funded by the democrat organ SEIU.”
From what I understand, Hispanics who legally immigrated are generally lean more conservative and aren’t necessarily in favor of illegal immigration. I think Sen. Cruz was smart to try to appeal to this group.
Just what part of the word ‘ILLEGAL’ do they no comprende?...........
And so it begins...
these group who say Cruz is anti-immigrant are them selves anti-American.
If you accept the definition of “immigrant” as one who has entered the US legally, and has a green card to prove it, then it is a lie, since Cruz very much supports “immigrants.”
What you say is very true. Latinos are split about 50-50 conservative versus democrat.
But Latinos will often vote Latino first and democrat second. Ted Cruz is Latino in their eyes. That’s why he won 40% of the Latino vote when he ran for office in Texas and that’s 400% of what other republican nominees pulled on average.
Apparently “illegal” is now the “i” word, and need never be spoken.
Yep, he’s anti ILLEGAL immigrant.
GO Ted Cruz!!
They should be proud of having Ted Cruz a potential president caindate as their own that their homey
He’s anti-illegal aliens coming to the US .....
Immigrant groups not supporting Cruz does not mean that successful immigrants who cam to the US for the right reasons won’t support him. People who moved up the ladder on their own don’t tend to appreciate free rides for others.
