Conservatives often find themselves at odds with the libertarian crowd. However, is that anger really warranted?
As President Reagan once said, If you analyze it, I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism.
True conservatives and libertarians, lets not pretend there arent fakers on both side, all agree on the fundamentals: limited government, personal responsibility, and economic freedom. Neither group wants the government interfering in our daily lives and telling us what we can and cannot do. Now there may be slight disagreements on how that plays out in the policy arena, but we should not allow that to stop us from working together.
Our primary focus needs to be on reigning in spending, and returning power to the states where it belongs. The government has overreached time after time with blatant disregard for the boundaries set forth in the constitution. Its time for conservatives and libertarians to put aside our differences, and work together.
As Morton Blackwell, President of the Leadership Institute, says, You owe it to your philosophy to study how to win. You have a moral obligation to learn how to win.
When are we going to realize that what we are doing isnt working? We are going to keep losing elections until we get this right, and America will pay the price.
Yep, been on two threads in a row now and saw both of the threads or posts as trolling.
They are all the same. Post their views as if their views is worthy to be read on a website not even in agreement with their agenda. They think the whole world is about them and what they think.
Every time I have talked to a liberal-tarian the first subject is always drugs and then onto homosexual marriage and always with the usual slogan of why should Govt get involved. Once they are asked about incest, age of consent and open borders they tend to shy away and won’t quote their no Govt slogan anymore.
” A libertarian is just a liberal that hasnt embraced their inner control freak yet.”
Well stated....to both of you.
So far he’s for the right to bear arms and universal suffrage for mice (but I think he really means suffering)!
Libertarian and party should not go together. The average libertarian is like the average non-conformist, they cannot even agree with each other on what they stand for as a group. Libertarian principles that we should be pro-individual and try to minimize the nanny state resonates with most people, but what that means at the detailed level changes based on which libertarian group is discussing it.
This is the single best definition of Libertarians I have ever seen.
I have a number of acquaintances that claim to be Libertarians. They are in agreement that the Government should be minimal but then the gap widens to the point they are liberal and conservative.
Funny. Last time I checked, the Civil war was over money, specifically tariffs. Lincoln himself said that he did not care if the South had slavery or not, so long as the Union was preserved. And if you look at the modern result of Lincoln’s usurpations of States’ Rights, then YES, the Federales should have kept their hands off the slavery issue and devolved it to the States and the People.
Abortion, properly dealt with, should be a Fifth Amendment issue, as in “shall not be deprived of life... without due process of law.” Otherwise it is a 10th Amendment issue, up to the States and the People. At least under the 10 Amendment, SOME states might be able to put an end to it.
Ditto for gay marriage; it is an issue for the States and the People. The main thing that really chaps me about it is the use of “Civil Rights” laws to force people to accommodate them - but see the first paragraph. I am still trying to figure out how a perverted and self-destructive behavior got Civil Rights protection. I should have know that was coming, though when diseases got civil rights protections instead of quarantine.
And all of these things have been perverted to increase the power of the Federal Government and those who control it.
For sure you didn't know. Libertarians are not Conservative and neither was Goldwater, he was a Libertarian running as a Republican. Conservatism does not exist apart from social conservatism and any atempt to say it does is foolish.
What were the inner thoughts on abortion and gay marriage of the 1964 presidential candidates?
They all were for them whether stated or not. Goldwater in his later years revealed his heart for all to see.
Oh by the way politicians have been known to lie occasionally.
No, you are just raving nuts, and trying to create a fake history.
Thank you, sir.
You’re right,*somebody’s* morality is going to be legislated...no matter what. Without it,anarchy prevails, until *somebody* steps in and imposes morality in order to end the chaos. The question is who will step in and impose morality—friend or foe?
He’s dead, Jim.
Which of those issues did any of them campaign against? Not campaigning for an issue is not the same as opposing it.
I voted for Goldwater, did you?
You think that presidential candidates were campaigning against gay marriage and abortion in 1964?
Do you remember 1964 America?
Which were outlawed at the time this formerly great republic was founded.
The Founding Fathers were not anarchists, which is what most libertarians are.
IATZ
That would suit me just fine. I'd settle for keeping the Religion threads off the main forum page.
“Conservatives often find themselves at odds with the libertarian crowd. However, is that anger really warranted?”
YES, IT IS! The Libertarians need to stay away from GOP primaries where they just screw things up. If a Libertarian wants to support a GOP candidate, they are welcome....but STOP putting Libertarians (like the Pauls) into the GOP primary process. They need to have the honesty to run as a Libertarian in that party...not as GOP. Also, STOP trying to push Libertarian amorality (libertines in view) on the GOP.
