Another Sunset Park resident is vindicated after prosecutors dropped charges that video of the incident proved were trumped-up.

Prosecutors dismissed charges that 17-year-old Enrique Del Rosario assaulted a police officer on June 8. Cops pinched Del Rosario last summer as he filmed them arresting revelers during Puerto Rican Day festivities on Fifth Avenue in Sunset Park. They beat Del Rosario and then tried to make him look like the aggressor, his lawyer said.

Good. Cops are outstanding servants to the community but lately a small percentage has been horrible.

In before the pro-cop FReepers who accuse FReepers of being anti-cop for daring to comment about the criminality of some cops.

Yes, an absurd statement for an absurd “rivalry”...

How does one define “small percentage”?

The ones actually cracking skulls and lying?

How about their partners who lie to make the meme stick, or the ones who just stay silent and allow their co-workers to pervert citizens’ rights?

It isn’t “lately”, and it isn’t a small percentage.

Well I still have great respect for the police so I was giving them some benefit of the doubts with my numbers. They are probably higher then we even can count.

Yeah, it’s the bad 90% that give the other 10% a bad name.

I’ve only ever had one positive experience (that includes cop relatives).

Trust me when I say, when dealing with them keep your mouth shut & have a good lawyer handy, even if it means a night in lock-up.

A lot of those people have STFU recently, for some reason.

Had their been cameras 40 years ago, I can tell you from personal experience that there would be entire west suburban Chicago _police departments_ in jail, and that’s just from what I saw.

Cops deal with bad guys every day and forget that the majority of people are good guys.

2/3 of the men in my immediate family are/were policemen... and they have lost their respect for police officers and police departments these days. I tend to defer to their opinions on matters involving the police.

My father was/is "old school", and shared the occasional story about when he and his coworkers would dole out some extra-judicial punishments when warranted, so he's not exactly the most Puritanical guy when it comes to matters of police abuses... but in every case, I could see where the rage came from and why it was meted out. (eg, pouring sand in the gas tank of a car that led them on a dangerous chase, etc. They would also do extra-judicial help, as well... letting drunks sleep it off and not recording the "arrest", etc.) These days, according to him, it's more like 'roid rage and demand for instant obedience than about righting wrongs.

He noted that today, it seems more like cops prefer to go after the easier targets, and leave the real community dangers untouched. He said his precinct would have been ashamed of itself if they ever let the real dangers simply go about their business when they were the only safeguard that the neighborhoods had. Sadly, most American men have been "civilized" by the feminist movement, and our hyper-lawyer-society has weeded out all individual judgement, so now cops care more about going home safely, and not following their conscience, than in making the neighborhoods safe.

Obviously the video itself is a criminal who takes drugs, and is therefore anti-LEO.

/ do I need it?

I’m reading at least $500,000 and the high ranking officer who told the person recording this in jail so far. Good lawyers should be able to do MUCH better.

No person of any intelligence (certainly not police officers, right?) should be unaware that recording things like this is absolutely legal. I want to see a few of these a#$%holes in federal prison for a decade or so for deprivation of rights under color of law charges. Everything these days is about “sending a message”. An ex-police officer/ex-con who will never sit on a bicycle again would “send a message”.

EXACTLY what you state here. Observation of these things as a police officer and not doing anything about it makes them equally guilty, IMO. I’m not buying this “small percentage” crap.

Similar thing happened in Seattle recently. SPD officer accused an elderly black gentleman of taking a swing at her with a golf club. Lo and behold, it took months, but car camera footage of the encounter finally came out. Said gentleman used the club as a cane the whole time.

Officer was reassigned, but reports of any other repercussions were vague. Gal is a lesbian. So is the new SPD chief. You do the math.

Cops need to be above reproach.

There are enough bad apples out there they are giving the profession a horrible reputation.

The good ones should drive out the bad ones, and fast.

Good. Cops are outstanding servants to the community but lately a small percentage has been horrible.

But a large percentage of cops consistently cover up for the small percentage.

Cops like to call that "Accessory after the fact" and maybe they'd do us all a favor and charge themselves when appropriate.

Idle thought: Be nice if maybe in the next “Avengers” movie they show a bunch of thug cops beating up on Dr. Bruce Banner and then we can see how that turns out for them.
