Lockheed Martin turned up the heat on its laser weapon technology and destroyed a truck from one mile away. The Maryland-based companys test of the ATHENA laser weapon was the highest power ever recorded of a laser weapon of its type.
The Advanced Test High Energy Assets March 3 test destroyed its target in a matter of seconds, the company said in a statement. An image of the smoking vehicle accompanied its announcement.
This test represents the next step to providing lightweight and rugged laser weapon systems for military aircraft, helicopters, ships and trucks, said Keoki Jackson, chief technology officer of Lockheed Martin.

See Bill Clinton I think said a beam of light came out of nowhere and blasted his zipper down while he was standing in front of that brothel.

too bad there is no way to mix in some visible light so it looks like a nice ray gun
maybe in the fog of battle there will be enough dust to show it

I think the Russians have already polished MIRV warheads to try to avoid destruction by laser.

destroyed its target in a matter of seconds, The enemy will now be quaking in their boots anytime they take a truck, tilt it up on a stool or stand, so that its hood faces the laser, and keeps it stationary for a matter of seconds.

A bad carburetor will do the same thing.

If it had the old 4.9l six cylinder it was probably gone anyway, they all spin that rear main bearing eventually.

I see they had the target still and tilted for effect - I wonder what the dynamics are if the target is moving and must be tracked to keep the beam focused on one spot long enough to do its thing.
