The U.S. government on Thursday suspended its operations due to a blizzard that forced schools and offices in the Washington metropolitan area to close and expectations are for up to 20 cm (8 in.) of snow to blanket the region.
The U.S. government, which employs some 300,000 people in Washington and its vicinity, closed its doors although it is expected that some employees will be able to work from their homes.
President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will hold a private meeting but do not have any other activities on their agendas for today and the daily White House press conference was cancelled.
The capital declared a "snow emergency" from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., and that means closing local schools and deploying snowplows and other cleaning services to keep the main streets clear of snow and ice.
The forecast indicates that the snow, which has fallen without letup since early Thursday morning and is expected to continue until later in the afternoon, could reach a depth of between 12 and 20 cm (about 5 to 8 in.), although it certainly may drift higher in places.

You have to laugh at this, the government will continue to function without them present at their jobs.

8” of snow is nothing. I guess this means the pajama boys can stay home next to the fire sipping herbal tea.

Do govt. workers still get paid when there is a snow emergency? Military members do. Civilians have administrative leave, but I am not sure what that means.
With being snowed in today, I am still doing things I would have done at work. Except for looking at FR, which I never do at work.
