When Cal Poly Sal Luis Obispo hosts its annual Open House this April, during which campus clubs typically greet and recruit prospective visiting students, one longtime mainstay at the university will be conspicuously absent: Cru.
The Christian club will not be allowed to set up a table and pass out fliers, or meet and greet guests. Its the same at Chico State, where Cru will not be allowed to showcase itself during the schools annual fall recruitment drive. Theyve also been forbidden from hanging up posters in freshman dorms.
Gone are the days when Christian student clubs at Cal Poly Sal Luis Obispo, Chico State and the other 21 Cal State universities across California are allowed to set up shop in the quad and recruit.
This school year, CSU administrators labeled campus Christian groups that refuse to allow non-Christians to lead them discriminatory. As a result, Christian clubs at Cal State universities that refused to change their constitutions and check boxes saying they would allow non-Christians as leaders have been officially derecognized by their campus communities.
Theyve been scrubbed from campus websites and directories. They cannot take part in events that help campus clubs recruit new members and gain visibility. They are charged a more expensive, outsider fee to rent rooms on campus straining their already tight coffers. Theyve lost a chance to receive a portion of student fees collected to help clubs on campuses thrive.
All these changes have hurt.
For Cru one of three Christian clubs derecognized from Cal Poly and Chico States campuses this school year participation has dwindled or outright plunged.

I’m sure that the Muslim Student Association is being treated identically.
Do they let non-students take classes and get degrees at Cal Poly?
Do they let non-students run student clubs?
Well, that’s just blatant discrimination.
saw the Black Student Association when I was in college...not white people there. One day I passed by and saw a meeting where former Rep. Harold Ford was giving a talk...no whites in the crowd.
Guaranteed no straights allowed to lead the gay clubs.
Colleges and universities should be engaged in hiring professors and providing buildings for classrooms and libraries.
There should be NO “activity fees” or any university involvement in doling out activity money. Or any rules about what associations or clubs the students form.
This should apply to sports, also. It’s all a vast, corrupt racket.
This organization called “Cru” used to be called Campus Crusade for Christ. They changed their name to appease liberals and deemphasize Christianity and Christ and try to broaden their appeal. Their reward? They get banned from campus anyway. So why try to appease liberals???
Clubs such as the Muslim Students Association, Cru, InterVarsity and the Newman Catholic Center were among dozens represented at the Nov. 15 California State Student Association meeting at Cal Poly to speak out against the new policy.
I don't know whether or not that means the policy extends to the Muslim Students Association, though.
Yeah, I would love to see what would happen if a Christian or Jew tried to run for an office. The university would figure out a way to weasel out of it for their sake.
When did this cease being the USA? It’s gone. Barely a shred left and no one seems to care. It’s unbelievable. Yet it’s true. Just blows my mind.
In the same vein, would they ban Muslim groups if they didn’t allow non-Muslims to be leaders? If not, then, that’s discriminatory too. This country is so messed up.
“The candidate was found beheaded, with the words ‘Allahu Akbar’ written on the ground in his own blood. Coroner said it was the worst case of suicide he’d ever seen.”
Weird. Thanks.
Seems about 6 years back.
Such policies are made to allow the hijacking and perverting of these clubs by Lib secularists.
As soon as Christians are no longer able to declare that there is no other real path To God than Jesus Christ all religions become watered down paths to hell..
20 years ago I belonged to a evangelical Christian club at a community college. A girl lied to the members about being a evangelical Christian and got elected president of the club. shortly after being elected she informed everyone that she was Mormon and that she hid the fact because she would of been discriminated against in the election. because of the rules at the college there was no way of removing her from her position. so a club that had over 50 members dissolved it self becoming a club with only five members all Mormon. what was really interesting was that there was a Mormon club on campus at the time and that the drama from are club collapsing in on it self spelled over to that club where half the members agreed with what the girl did and the other half thought it stunk
“CSU administrators labeled campus Christian groups that refuse to allow non-Christians to lead them discriminatory.”
This whole policy is just so lacking in common sense that I have to conclude that it is motivated by anti-Christian prejudice and bigotry. Why wouldn’t ANY group restrict leadership to those who accept the goals of the specific group?
2Ti_3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Maybe they're too strong on godly living for the college policritters.
