Never doubt the resilience of the Seattle Seahawks.
Plagued by turnovers and outplayed much of Sunday by Green Bay, the Seahawks staged an improbable comeback and beat the Packers 28-22 in overtime. Russell Wilson, who struggled until the final minutes, hit Jermaine Kearse for a 35-yard touchdown 3:19 into the extra period on the only possession.
The Seahawks became the first defending champion to make the Super Bowl in 10 years, and will play the winner of the AFC title game between Indianapolis and New England. How they got there was stunning.
I tried to eat some cheese today but started choking on it 😜.
Aaron Rodgers was 4-0 in their Superbowl year.
He is 2-5 in their other playoff games.
I went to my first Pittsburgh Steelers' game in November of 1960. We had a Superbowl against Seattle. We won it. And we've had to listen to Seattle fans whine about it for years. I lost what little respect I still had for Mike Holmgren after his unsportsmanlike -- and mistaken -- comments. You lost that game because you put nine men in the box and once the fastest man on the field broke the line it was read-view mirror all the way, and because you didn't defend a gadget play that the Steelers had used about four times during the regular season. I couldn't care less about the NFC, and I'm not a Green Bay fan [we lost our Superbowl against Aaron Rodgers.]
You sucked today. Own it. It's the truth. You can enjoy the outcome, but if you're a football fan you can't possibly be happy about the way your team played.
>>I would support playing an entire quarter in OT. Let everyone share their 15 minutes.
>>As would I. Or at least, something similar to the college rules, where both teams get a chance to possess the ball.
I can’t stand the college OT rules. It’s like breaking a basketball tie by playing horse.
But I heard an interesting proposition once on TV some Thanksgiving day. Just play to 6. I’d suggest play to 5 so a safety isn’t totally irrelevant, though.
The college rules are completely stupid and need to be done away with. You get to the overtime because you have played to a dead standstill in regulation using all of the resources at your disposal: long game, short game, field position, game plan, strategy, tactics, offense, defense, and special teams. Then, in the overtime, nothing matters but red zone offense. It’s dumb and it’s boring. The NFL would be absolutely nuts to adopt it.
That was a wonderful win emotionally. It was not a good win in terms of the football played.
In case you didn’t notice, Seattle kept the high-scoring GB offense to just 16 points until halftime - and that gave Seattle’s offense a chance to come back.
Yes there were a lot of messy plays, unnecessary penalties, turnovers, etc. And you can be sure the Seahawks will be spending the next 2 weeks working on it.
I was hoping for a Green Bay win, but now Aaron Rodgers will have time to do his own State Farm commercials. Although that “Aaron Wroggers” guy from London who was filling in for him was endearing in his own way.
That was a bad play, but to call him a bad player is not accurate. He’s been pretty damn good over the course of the season as he got experience.
To me, it suggests they were a middle-tier team which had success because they had some good matchups in an early, and mid-season win, but weren’t well coached enough to make their way through the late season — which matters a lot more.
“That was a wonderful win emotionally. It was not a good win in terms of the football played.”
So you are one of the “It’s not whether you win or lose but how you play the game” types.
All I know is that some poorly played games have made me feel damned good.
.
Obviously you don’t watch baseball or golf or bass fishing on TV ....
Didn’t actually use those words, but c’mon, he’s getting paid how many millions to prevent a receiver from catching that football? And he stands there like the game’s already over.
But there were a lot of GB mistakes - 5 times in the red zone and only 1 TD from it is bad ...
The "drive" that began at 08:21, Q2, was 06:26. It started on the Seattle 31. It lasted 12 plays. It went 51 yards. End result: Interception.
You coughed up the ball during drives on your 20, your 20, your 31, and your 46. When you give Green Bay possession in your own territory, they don't need to move the ball to score. When you use 6:26 to do nothing and the other team has the lead, it's ball control for their benefit.
My analysis stands, is verified by the stats, and you are mistaken.
I understand now why you were elated by this great game. You weren't paying attention to it. I was.
That all depends on which Seattle team shows up. If the Seahawks’ offense doesn’t come to play, it will indeed be a blowout.
In case you didn’t notice it, Seattle’s offense didn’t come back. Green Bay collapsed. Period.
Huh?
The very last play was a goal line TD catch by Kearse which was out of the hands of the defender.
I’m not gonna argue with you. But I will correct your obviously false statements.
I agree. I hate the prevent defense. Whoever came up with that should be imprisoned. It’s almost as bad a lite beer.
That quote refers to moral outcomes and has nothing to do with the quality of games played per se; and I would hope all conservatives believe in it:
"For when the One Great Scorer comes
To mark against your name,
He writes not that you won or lost
But how you played the Game."
(from "Alumnus Football" -- Grantland Rice.)
Despite its context, that phrase isn't even remotely about football.
However, I will tell you this with respect to the point you're trying to make. You don't learn anything useful as a player or coach from this kind of game, except what you need to fix.
They scored 15 points in 43 seconds
Yes that’s a comeback
