“One would have to be a master of denial to pretend we are not headed to mass upheaval.”
Obama would love that. “Never let a good crisis go to waste.” : (
pic to me looks like it happened in “L’Express” right off Gramercy Park. One of the richest and most liberal neighborhoods. There’s a statue of Lenin on a roof practically visible from there.
what bravery in their choice of venue...
Anyone who didn’t see this coming just wasn’t looking. One look at world history will show you that no country with a diverse population of different races, languages, and religion has long survived.
Countries dont naturally form with diverse populations, and when in the past theyve occurred its usually been as a result of armed conquest. These unnaturally formed countries have either melded together into a single population made up of one mixed race with one language and one religion or theyve come apart, and theyve usually come apart with extreme violence. The longer these diverse populations are forced to coexist with one another without mixing and becoming one, the more the hatred grows among them and the more violently they break apart, but break apart they will, or genocide will settle the issue once and for all.
Why is this and why cant we all just get along? The truth of the matter is that we (the human race) just arent as civilized as we would like to think we are. Our species, Homo-sapiens-sapiens, isnt that long out of the trees and the veneer of civilization is very thin, to non-existent, upon us all. Were all carrying the genes that got us here and some of those genes carry a very basic survival instinct that has allowed us to survive thus far.
This most basic of all survival instincts is self-preservation and its the one that warns us to be very wary of those who are different than us, our family, and our tribe. Those who possessed this survival instinct survived and reproduced, and those who had no fear/distrust of strangers didnt survive. Over the years, this survival instinct has been referred to as tribalism, nationalism, ethnocentrism, racism, and various other isms, but its an inborn instinct carried in our genes whether we like it or not.
I don’t understand the customers’ reaction. Even at my age and poor health, I’d “confront” them right back. I haven’t that good a control on my temper. I’ve had enough of this crap, I’m a working class puke whose worked with and associated whith all kinds of people but I won’t be disrespected by any welfare a’hole.
“Why did the white people take this sitting down?”
Normalcy bias. People expect peace at a restaurant, and think if they do nothing the problem will go away, and if they do act they will be punished. They hope that compliance alone will restore peace, fearing that stepping up will escalate the conflict.
Last night I had a comparable incident. Out for dinner, some guy was on his hands-free phone doing business loudly enough to overwhelm our conversation - even though he was on the far side of the large room. My wife was becoming distraught, but was reluctant we say anything lest he become violent. Failing to get his attention (turned out he was completely blind) I complained to a waitress, and long story short he moved and quieted down. All turned out well. Relevance? people, in public, are deeply reluctant to criticize the behavior of others in mutually polite circumstances in close proximity, fearful bad behavior well turn worse.... Yet firm calling out and request for better behavior can work, both against mistaken and deliberate disturbance.
He might at first. Not so much when his own people turn on him after their families die. And they will. Because he doesn’t believe in human nature. Even Adolf had his ‘turncoats’.
Remember - Mayor De Blasio doesn't want the NYPD cops to react to racist provocations by blacks.
And don't forget how blacks physically beat two NYPD Lieutenants back on Dec. 13 during the December street riots peaceful demonstrations on the Brooklyn Bridge.
I’m surprised they were awake early enough to be there at brunch time.
Going back a ways, this forum knew how to respond to that problem and it's a code that I live by, myself. In fact I was raised this way.
Ain't that some sweet justice?
News flash for ya.....99.9999% of “Italian guys” are not mobsters, capice?
From Yahoo article....
...At each stop, demonstrators read the names of African Americans killed by police.
The one in Stillwater?
Actually a lot of judges would consider a stranger suddenly approaching you and screaming in your face a threatening act.
Outstanding post.
NYC leftists will just have to deal with it.
Try that in a red state. I dare them.
No brunch, no peace.
I pity the restaurant owner and the conservative patrons, but not the liberal patrons. But for all we know, the liberal patrons are probably making excuses for the protesters. Stockholm Syndrome.
Who exposes themselves to physical harm from these people so recklessly? My area is filling with Hispanics, and those that don’t want to deal with them either spend a little extra or belong to private clubs. Private clubs (many originally along ethnic lines; others were Elks, VFWs, etc.) were seriously declining until a few years ago; now the open-to-the-public competition is hurting (because this might happen).
“black, former lesbian, wife”
Well, it’s speculation on my part to assume what gender Bill Blasio is, so it would also be speculation on my part to assume that Bill’s wife is a “former” lesbian.
And, I don’t like to speculate.
