Hello all. Sitting here at home and wondering if anyone else out there is spending this evening alone.
On this night of all nights when families gather and friends share gifts and time, some of us are, for various reasons, spending Christmas Eve solo.
Not necessarily a bad thing - alone doesn't always mean lonely. But, it does mean alone.
Check in if that includes any of you, my fellow Freepers.
These things come and go.
I found myself without family or friends for several years. The family all died off, the friends all moved out of state. And I was the last man standing. I was still there because I was the only one who still had a job.
In time, things changed. I made new friends and life started over. Yours will too.
“...but there does cone to a point where you become comfortable with it.”
I’m not there yet, but that is good to know. Merry Christmas, Jonty.
I’m sorry, Doc. I hope things get better for you.
I’m here at home with my longtime guy and my cats. Next year will be better, as hopefully I will have a job again before next year!
I got a few precious hours to myself while wife went over to hang with in-laws and such to exchange a few token gift cards...gave me the opportunity to listen (without interruption) to a few Christian health programs on-line...
Howdy, Skooz!
I remember this thread from three Christmases past.
I am NO LONGER alone!
I have The Bride, my stepdaughters Brainiac and Jailbait, and Fergus The Wonder Puppy as my new family!
I have a house, a fireplace with antlers, and a blazing hearth. How things have transformed in three years, from a homeless vet to a married family man again!
The best wishes for all of you and yours for a Merry Christmas this year!
FNL, you are blessed! And you have blessed us tonight with your story.
If that “Smart TV” does not work out get a Roku TV box. I have been off cable for close to 4 years now with the Roku and would not go back for love or money.
Merry Christmas!
At work, on the road...home at midnight though(I hope!). Just got slow for a few minutes and came across this thread
Merry Christmas!
I’m alone for a few hours.
Of course, we are never alone.
Anyway, just finished watching the new Rogan/Franco movie.
In the style of Seth Rogan/James Franco movies, it was pretty good.
thank you, Merry Christmas
Happy Christmas to you, too! And ya know, we are not really alone when we have fellow Freepers to converse with.
I’m not but, it sure feels like it.
For sure this is the last Holiday Season I spend around people who just have a difficult time with joy, gratitude and hope.
No more, ever again.
thank you, Freepers are the best! Merry Christmas!
Well I’m glad you get to see them tomorrow.
“Yes, the family has a better time without me, believe me..”
Why, are they drinkers? Or maybe you’re the drinker?
Sorry, just thinking of my own dysfunctional family ;(
My wife and I just finished watching the Solemn Midnight Mass from Bethlehem and we both are realizing how big this world is and what we mean to each other.
Mr. Mercat and I are sitting around waiting for our kids to show up. I’m guessing they’ll show up around the time I need to go to bed. I like quiet though and when they get here they can enjoy each others company. Glad to have found this thread.
Blessings to you! You story is a true blessing. I help out/hang with a homeless vet shelter and can’t wait to share your joy with them.
Merry Christmas!
P.S. My oldest boy is Special Forces (Green Beret) the headlines tell where he is now. Would you include him in a prayer for me?
yep, and I’m not cooking. :) (although I’d love to be in a place in life that I would be gathering my kids and cooking)
