I’m not sure if this is the article or not - didn’t click link - but I was reading yesterday that the number one best ever safety feature is not seat belts or even multiple air bags.
Its electronic stability control.
ESC has prevented thousands of rollovers and keeps cars and drivers from swerving and over correcting thereby saving thousands of lives.
Experts say the best car for your kid (or anyone for that matter) HAS to have ESC.

Teens drive older/smaller cars because they’re cheaper.
Obviously what we need is a new government subsidy program to help teen drivers buy newer/larger cars.
Safe cars are a human right, just like free cellphones, free broadband internet service, and free healthcare.

"Obviously what we need is a new government subsidy program to help teen drivers buy newer/larger cars." Just have DoD give the surplus MRAPs to teens instead of local police departments. Problem solved.

I think ESC became mandatory with the 2015 model year. Just waiting for the other shoe to drop, now (gradual phase out of non-ESC vehicles through the safety inspection process).

This is a tough study to make.
For instance, a young driver might well be more careful with a newer car, because there is more fear of wrecking it than there would be in a beater. It is not necessarily the case that the car is inherently safer.
Also, youths might be more tempted to do stupid things in smaller, sportier cars. No one is going to weaving in a Buick Park Avenue, but last Sunday on I-85 from Atlanta, the crazy speeding weavers were driving a Dodge Neon and a Chevy Aveo.

I’m 18, I want one of them. Where do I sign up?
I look older than I am, but I swear I’m 18. Really...

“teens” again?
Why are only 13 to 19 year old black boys safer in these bigger newer cars?
Isn’t that racist?

I guarantee you won't be making very many ‘zippy maneuvers’ in that car.

I learned to drive on one of these. Ours was black without the vinyl roof, but with the Ralleye II wheels.
30 years later - I still miss that car more than any other.

My granddaughter has a big old car. They were going to trade it in...but their mechanic said she's much safer in the big old car.
I have a big ole car, too.
