Some prominent moderate establishment Republicans in Utah are plotting to target conservative icon Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) with a primary challenge in 2016.
Lees offense? He didnt drink the Washington Kool-aid and see the D.C. cesspool as a jacuzzi after he ousted incumbent Sen. Bob Bennett (R-UT), who had supported the TARP bailouts, in 2010.
When Lee prevailed over Bennett, he gave other conservatives across the country hope that they could also defeat entrenched incumbents who cared more about preserving the status quo above all else. Once Lee arrived in Washington, he didnt turn his back on the base, which angered some prominent establishment Republicans.
According to a report in Politico, moderate GOP billionaires like Jon Huntsman Sr. and some powerful establishment Republicans in Utah are tired of Lees conservatism and willingness to live up to his campaign promises instead of letting the D.C. establishment co-opt him.
During his first Senate term, Lee has established himself as one of conservatisms leading voices. As Politico implies, establishment Republicans do not like him because he stood with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) to defund Obamacare and has supported defunding Obamas executive amnesty with Sens. Cruz and Jeff Sessions (R-AL). Most recently, Lee has offered positive solutions via his conservative reform agenda that specifically focuses on improving the lives of working Americans with conservative policies.
Huntsman, the father of President Barack Obamas former Ambassador to China and failed 2012 GOP presidential candidate Jon Huntsman, reportedly has refused to meet with Lee because of his extremely radical positions against Obamacare and executive amnesty. Huntsman said the government shutdown cost his cancer research foundation millions in federal taxpayer dollars, and he predicted a major primary challenge against Lee, telling Politico that Lee is an embarrassment and an extremist.

I wish I could edit my last post.
I don’t want it to seem like I think Romney is a conservative. In a moment of weakness and fear and after months of guilt tripping by relatives (and some here on FR) I was convinced to vote for him.
NEVER AGAIN.
You just don’t get it do you. Lesser evil is the way, the truth and the light. Since we are nearly at Christmas, I think it goes without saying that Jesus would have been fine with lesser evil. I mean that’s what the whole Bible is about right? Accepting evil?
See, the problem, as it ALWAYS is, is the purists. They spread this crap that God was against evil in all it’s forms. Clearly that’s not the case. But with purists ruining everything, they managed to convince everyone that Jesus was himself a purist. The problem with that is that if Jesus himself ran for office, he wouldn’t be pure enough because he would lose and that’s why we gotta back lesser evil.
And stuff.
Things like this happen in politics. Lee took out Bennett. Now Huntsman will try to find somebody to take down Lee.
I know they will try but that isn’t going anywhere.
"extremist" is the new "racist"?
How do Utah denizen's feel about him?
Dennis Hastert was Speaker of the US House... and Ray LaHood was a US Congressman, representing the 18th Congressional District of Illinois. Fitzgerald appointed Patrick Fitzgerald as a US Attorney, with the Senate's approval, and who went after then sitting IL Governor REP. George Ryan, eventually getting a conviction resulting in a prison sentence for Ryan (the bastard that he is).
This didn't sit well with the “Combine”. Fitzgerald was considered a maverick of sorts, and would vote his conscience, conflicting with the party line. This earned him the ire of the leadership, and party stooges as well.
Fitzgerald was put on notice that he was going to be challenged in the primary. This meant a brutal fight within his own party (in the primary), followed by a battle royale with an opponent in the general election.
Also, Fitzgerald reasoned that he had already held public office for 12 consecutive years... and that his son would be 18 and off to college upon completion of a second 6 year US Senate term, meaning: Peter would have more or less missed out on his kid's life growing up, which tipped the scales in favor of him not running for reelection.
Jack Ryan was a rising star within the IL GOP and sought the US Senate candidacy, only to be taken out by having his sealed and damaging divorce records leaked, which took him out at the knees. Likewise, Blair Hull, a Democrat seeking the same US Senate seat, had his sealed and damaging divorce records leaked, taking him out at the knees just like Ryan.
Lastly, Ambassador Dr. Alan Keyes arrived in the state in true carpetbagger fashion, assuming the GOP mantle, running against bath-house Barry... and the rest as they say, is history.
Coincidentally, the traitor rino son of a bitch- Ray LaHood, wound up as Obungo’s Secretary of Transportation. Funny how that worked.
Good old Chicago/IL politics at play.
Mike Lee needs to stand and fight.
FWIW: Fitzgerald had oodles of money, which he loaned himself during his historic defeat of freshman (incumbent) US Senator DEM. Carol Mosley-Braun. He would need twice the amount of money to run against the Combine, in the primary and again in the general election. Mama apparently didn't raise no fool.
I wish he would have stood and fought. (sigh)
As an FYI: There is good reason to suspect David Axelrod of having his fingerprints all over the sealed divorce records leaks (in both cases).
It also sounds like what he's talking about is more the automatic spending cuts or sequestration, than a government shutdown. That's a line that Democrats have been pushing, but it's not clear to me whether it actually has to do with the feared shutdown, or just Washington's usual chaotic way of doing things.
IF a third party is not formed before the next election it will be too late. If it’s not already too late.
“Moderates” - another term for elitist and/or democrat
The RINOs did what the Democrats couldn't do: They destroyed the only party I had left.
Frankly, I suspect it's too late by about 14 years.
Huntsman Sr. has been a big hero of Glenn Beck's for a long time. If the father is anything like his son, who was a former UT governor (R) and U.S. Ambassador to China under BHO's watch, then U.S. Rep. Lee may well be toast. We just saw Boehner block U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions from chairing the budget committee. The moderate wing of the GOP is on the warpath agains GOP conservatives. 2016 may well be our last stand.
Yep, and some of us have been screaming for one for at least 14 years.

After following Utah politics from California I have come to believe the Huntsman clan is much more a Mormon propagator than a United States entity. I enjoy their theatrics and showmanship but in the back of my mind is the nagging idea that Mormons are power hungry not tuned to the US constitution as a document relative to/for all US citizens.
It will just make me send more money to him. We overcame in Wisconsin with Scott Walker and others, and we will again with Lee.
The GOPe corporatists will not be denied.
>> At least the new TEA Rs are gaining in number, at state levels as well.
Yup. The GOP-e is getting squeezed, and lashing out in response.
BTTT.
