--SNIP-- The new fence constructed just inside an existing red brick wall and a wrought-iron fence ringing the historic property was actually dubbed a privacy fence by de Blasio and first lady Chirlane McCray, sources told The Post. So much for being mayor of the people. That brick fence was good enough for Rudy Giuliani and his family, and for Ed Koch and all the mayors before him, a law enforcement source said. They didnt need a taller fence. Thats the same house where everybody else lived for years.

He likes The People as a *CONCEPT*.
Ever notice just HOW different “THE People” is from plain-old, “PEOPLE”..?
Just one word of difference, but WORLDS apart.
King De Blah’s fence should be respected the same way the libs respect the US Border. How dare HE demand anything more!
It’s ironic that the peoples Comrade Mayor would build a fence between himself and his fellow Comrade Citizens. Next thing we’ll find out is that Comrade Mayor has doubled the size of his praetorian guard and issued an edict that Comrade Citizens must bow and scrape as he passes in his State Carriage.
He may soon need a deep moat, and that is just to slow down the SWAT teams.
They knew exactly who and what they were voting for, which makes them the idiots Gruber was referring to.
Yeah, all you have to do is watch the Kim Klan over in NK. The knives there are always out and busy. Now if only Farrakhan would only take out the “two reverends,” or maybe they all go in a circular firing squad. We could have “rev Wright” officiate at their joint funeral, where the mourners could sing a couple of verses of GD Amerika.
Anybody got a 13 ft. ladder?
Until David Dinkins, no mayor ever lived in Gracie Mansion. I remember the uproar at the expense of refitting the 200 year old house for human occupation. Outrage over squandering the public's money is long dead.
I recall that brouhaha. But the Custodian had a “friend” stashed in a W55th st co-op. Used to see him departing at first light once or twice a week when I walked the dog. He had the sneaky departure down pat. Head down, 7 or 8 steps to the open car door and he was gone in less than a half minute..
I can't stand the new mayor.
Given those caveats, I don't blame him at all for himself and his family not wanting to live in a scary fishbowl in the middle of a restless, unstable city.
I would live elsewhere for privacy and safety...and utilize the historic but prison-like mansion for official events, receptions and the like. I and mine wouldn't want to live there for one day!
Leni
I believe Ed Koch also lived in Gracie Mansion but kept his Village apartment. Kaiser Wilhelm is a disaster. He is now wrecking the famous Bronx Science school - which sent kids from there to MIT. He has taken away the difficult admission tests so it will be more “inclusive.” Dumber, of course.
Shortly after Lenin came to power he survived 2 assassination attempts. The more famous one was by a woman called Fanya Kaplan.
From wiki
Kaplan said during her interrogation that she considered Lenin to be “a traitor to the Revolution” for dissolving the Constituent Assembly and for outlawing other leftist parties
The fence is no good against a mortar barrage
He might be afraid the cops will no longer protect him as well, after he said publicly that he had to warn his son to watch out for them.
Cops told him not to come to their funerals. Nice work o police-community relations.
The man is quite stupid. Plus he has bad taste in fences.
IIRC Koch had a very good reason to hang on to that Village apt. Rent control!
Isn’t Stuyvestant HS under fire as well?
I know there are other schools under attack - Stuyvesant may be one of them. Look, he’s doing to NYC what Obama is doing to the country. And it’s amazing how fast we’ve fallen!
As Rush always says, NYers are the most provincial people in the world. And I know it first hand.
Gracie Mansion is quite lovely and located in a very beautiful part of Manhattan. I lived in that area for 27 years - it is directly on Carl Schurz Park. While you couldn’t go into the house, it was highly visible and easy to walk around. If NYC is unstable (and I don’t buy that) a lot of it has to do with this new mayor and his best friend, Al Sharpton.
