Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...

So there is a formal letter from the president saying ignore the law, prosecutors.
So impeach him, jail him, remove him.

Pretty sad day when the Congress is reduced to symbolism.

I mean, they start referencing the Const., hell, they may actually have to FOLLOW the damn thing, no? We have PLENTY of ‘laws’ that violate the Constitution. It’s been a shell game for the last 100yrs+, definitely NOT a Republic. Yet, we had a cabal, even here, pushing for the ‘hold the nose just ONE more time’/’we’ll hold their feet to the fire’....

They voted no or present because in the end some amendments were added that weakened the bill quite a bit. They would have voted yes on the original bill. They did have a reason.

“I honestly believe that we could pick 535 random names out of the phone book and this country would be better off.”

So true. The majority of those in politics are in it for themselves and to destroy the country. I exclude those like Sessions and Cruz.

“It is symbolic because the democrats hold the Senate until January, 2015 when the NEW Senate takes their oaths and goes to work...”

Do you really expect the republicans to stop amnesty?

It was the 108th congress with Bush that tried to shove amnesty down our throats. It was only conservatives in the house that saved the country.

RE: Many Americans will blame who the Leftist media wants them to blame.

PRECISELY, it remains to be seen if those in Congress will tough it out even when under siege.

If someone can articulate the reason for the shutdown in a clear, cogent way, they might be able to overcome the leftist media.

If not, it is still the ONLY option they have left given that Obama knows that this is his political ace in the hole.

Like those in the Alamo, I’d really like to see them do the right thing and shut it down, or die trying.

RE: Lots of options on the table?

I’ve been giving it some thought but I think they only have two options constitutionally. Both options are not easy.

I believe that if Congress toughs it out on amnesty and refuses to fund the department that implements it, a shutdown is all but inevitable because of Obama’s sure veto.

It remains to be seen how many members have the fortitude to tough it out, even of the mainstream press lays the blame on them as they most assuredly will.

There really are no other constitutional options. The Constitution only gives Congress so much power. These are:

1) The Power of the purse

2) Impeachment

if they exercise the first, they will have to overcome a veto, which they don’t have the numbers for. Hence, a tough congress will have to endure a shutdown, no matter how long.

if they exercise the second, they again don’t have the numbers to succeed, which will just be a royal waste of time, other than to send a message.

We can all shout and scream at them, but what other options do they have?

It would help if folks held their fire and stopped this “RINO!” calling every time a Congressman/Senator votes other than how the power would have it. Getting the whole picture helps.

Republicans are once again proving their spinelessness.
Wonder how they win such a big mandate in November after being blamed for “shutdowns?”

Absolutely disgusting. Proverbial snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

"Breaking: House passes symbolic bill to block Obama’s executive amnesty..."

.... Symbolism over Substance ... now the GOPe can say that they at least "Tried" before they cave like a cheap tent.

.... Like the title says ... this is only symbolic.

Symbolic means absolutely nothing. Wake me up from hibernation when they present articles of impeachment.

Yeh. It’s driving me nuts - everyone’s talking about “Obama’s Amnesty”, except there isn’t any.

No they don't have to overcome a veto.

The house can pass an acceptable bill and Reid either brings it to the floor of the Senate or not. And the president can either sign it or not if it makes it through the Senate.

If Reid doesn't bring it to the floor, the government isn't funded.

Easy peasy.

Don't fund the government. The Republican House, by themselves, now, have that power.

Use it.
