Dr. Ben Carson, author of "One Nation: What We Can All Do to Save America's Future," argued that while Officer Darren Wilson did nothing wrong in the fatal shooting of Michael Brown, police should be better trained in non-lethal force such as shooting aggressors in the legs on Tuesday's "Hugh Hewitt Show."
>snip<
He specified "for instance, in a lot of places, police officers arent even allowed to go into the more dangerous areas by themselves. Theyre always paired. Or you know, people use tasers, people learn how to shoot people in the legs to stop them from charging, things of that nature. And I seriously doubt that hed been given that information."

Colonel Fairbairn certainly thought so. He and his group of Chinese bada$$es met knife-wielding assailants often when cleaning up Shanghai. His advice - shoot for the belly. It doesn't kill quickly but they find something else to think about. That'd be Fairbairn second from the left. I wouldn't care to mess with these guys.
Of course, there isn't really any part of the human body, even the fingertip, that's "non-lethal". My advice would be to shoot their hats off, twirl the gun a few times, blow the smoke out of the barrel, and re-holster. Assuming it's Saturday morning and your assailant happens to be a bad guy wearing a black hat.
I believe a leopard does not change it’s spots. It is what he believes at his core. DISQUALIFIED!!!
Also, it was not a sound bite. It was an in depth interview. Did you bother to listen to it?
How about.... DONT NOMINATE HIM!!! Sick and tired of crap candidates.
Silly talk.
Really? Do you think he’ll be the nominee? Not likely. Conservatives need to get their heads screwed on straight and stop jumping at shadows.
This is what vetting is for.
After talking with a Korean War combat surgeon, I decided that a shot to the bladder is a good way to stop someone in their tracks. Making the second shot becomes a bit more difficult though since the writhing agony assailant will likely be in a fetal curl and spinning.
“Silly talk.”
Far less silly than the idiocy escaping every time Dr. Carson opens his cake hole.

Another AH-HA moment for those who still think Ben Carson is presidential material.
I would think that a shot at a slight downward angle would tend to be lethal for a shorter distance beyond the intended point of aim than one which is fired horizontally or upward. A typical self-defense shooting isn't going to allow the shooter much chance to look 100 yards or more behind the target to make sure there aren't any innocents in the line of fire.
Carson’s not running for FReeper of the year. Stop taking it so seriously. He’s a great benefit to our side. He’s not perfect, but he’ll get better over time. I’ll take every Dr. Carson we can get. As an African American he represents the trend of rethinking the GOPc and our issues. That’s always a plus.
Sure, but ricochets are notoriosly unpredicable.
Yes, legs are small; and when someone runs they move quickly.
Learn something new every day!
That’s what I’m thinkin’. You’re aiming for the bad guy’s legs while he’s aiming for your HEAD!
(Dr. Carson definitely NOT presidential material - I’m an old lady and I was able to find the flaw in his “reasoning”.)
I take it the good doctor doesn’t do very much pistol shooting, when fractions of a second count, you ain’t got the time to screw around being a humanitarian when your life depends on stopping an attack :)
And wannabee politicians could be trained not to, so to speak, shoot themselves in the head.
I did, and I would hardly call it in-depth. She started off talking about Ebola and switched gears to gun rights where she played a clip of Dr. Carson on Glenn Beck's show. His response was a bumbling cacophony of misplaced beliefs whereas his later response was a bit more coherent. It was a 20 minute clip, if that.
Again, I will gladly keep this in mind. You don't have to convince me that this is alarming to say the least, but I'm not going to dismiss a candidate because of an interview by Beck. If he continues to stumble through his answers, I believe his true colors will show through.
I propose this latest flub is the third strike, and so Carson is out.
Strike 1: No guns in cities
Strike 2: Smart gun tech
Strike 3: Train cops to shoot for the legs
What does he have to do to disqualify himself in your eyes?
Those three strikes are plenty in my book, but if you aren’t strongly pro 2A, I guess your ilk can let it slide.
The constitution states: A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Even licensing is a violation of 2A. Sorry, but Carson is anti 2A, plain and simple.
I’m not sure what you want me to say, FRiend. I’m an NRA Endowment Member with thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of my time spent to advance pro-2A candidates. I’ve worked phone banks for local and state conservative representatives since I was old enough to vote. You will not find a better friend to the Second Amendment.
Carson’s views are wrong, yes, but he also sounds misguided and unsure on the subject. Could this be because he’s hiding anti-gun sentiments? Absolutely! Could it be because he’s misinformed and cannot speak eloquently on the subject, that, too, is a possibility. What I do know is that when you put pro-2A candidates on the ballot, men and women who are not only staunch opponents of gun control but are also former soldiers, hunters, mothers and fathers, you get the media going after them in a feeding frenzy asking them ridiculous scenario-based questions whenever a school shooting happens. That, inevitably, leads to the court of public opinion completely tearing them apart for supporting “baby killers.”
Carson does not have a lengthy documented history of support for gun control. He says one thing, but we have absolutely zero legislative history on him. He’s not held public office. Unless you can dig up medical journals, documents, essays, theses, treatises, manifestos, etc. written by him on gun control, I’m going to take the tack that the man is a blank slate. There are plenty of instances of politicians who outright lied to get votes while their records proved counter to their claims. Carson is a civilian injecting himself into politics, and I think he’s going to be less-than-prepared for discussions on subjects like gun control.
If he continues to stumble over it, I’ll take another look, but he’s the only person who’s publicly thrown his hat in the ring as of this time.
