A new video about street harassment has gone viral and it proves that . . . how do I put this? It proves that I was right.
The video, released by the nonprofit anti-street-harassment organization Hollaback, features a moderately attractive woman, Shoshana Roberts, wearing jeans and a T-shirt, walking in silence through Manhattan for ten hours. The trek was recorded on a hidden video camera, carried by Roberts’s boyfriend, who walked in front of her. The camera picked up over 100 instances of street harassment in one day, according to the group, ranging in severity from men shouting “good morning,” and “how you doing today?” to men following her for several minutes, walking uncomfortably close.

Disagree. I don’t think she was dressing or acting in any way intended to attract such attention.
Do you suggest breast reduction surgery if she doesn’t like such “attention?”
I must admit I’m vastly out of the loop on modern women. Do large numbers of women seriously appreciate such attention, stop and talk to the young men involved and go off somewhere to have sex with them? I seriously doubt it but am willing to be convinced.
To my mind, it is one thing to try to strike up a conversation to somewhere you’re standing next to in line, seated by at a bar, etc. Quite different to call out at a young woman on the street who is obviously going somewhere.
I think conservatives, if nobody else, would support the lost ideal of gentlemanliness. Apparently not.
can anyone find the photo of the young woman in a nice dress walking the street in Italy with about 10 guys doing various things, whistling, eyeballing her etc. That’s the tradition.
I knew Italians were blessed, but I never know how blessed.

Challenge: count the total number of men she passed, then note the percentage which the 108 of “offenders” make up.
She’s maximizing her exposure to the broadest range of people in one of the highest-density areas in the world, dressing for maximum attraction (see #76 above), and as an aspiring actress acting (however subtle) in a manner to get noticed. Squinting at the issue from that perspective, it’s almost surprising that the 108 number is so _low_.

“Good morning” is harassment? What garbage...

When one encounters a slob, it might be a good idea to inform him/her that that's what he/she is.
So repeat the “experiment” in various areas. Do men react differently to her in “white” areas of NY? What about in southern or midwestern cities? Cities overseas?
The raw video could be analyzed for all kinds of interesting data. Of the men she passed, what percentage catcalled her? What percentage of men by ethnicity? What conclusions can be drawn from any differences?
Such studies will not, of course, be done, as they are likely to find out that the problem with “men” they are decrying is largely one of men of certain designated victim groups. And that would of course be unacceptable results.
However, there is nothing stopping conservative activists from duplicating the method and publishing their results.
As a white male who tries to always treat all women like a gentleman, I resent being lumped in with male jerks.

Dunno about your jurisdiction, but in mine the police WANT to be called for minor incidents - because small ones turn into big ones. Local sheriff made it clear, in no uncertain terms, that our neighborhood should call 911 (yes, 911) for even such things as door-to-door soliciting in the “No Soliciting” area; the suspect may very well be gone by then, but may get the message that such behavior is unacceptable and is assured that escalation will not end well for him.
