The hero sergeant-at-arms who killed the alleged shooter in Wednesday's attack on the Canadian Parliament was welcomed back into the building this morning with a prolonged standing ovation.

Kevin Vickers, 58, nodded to acknowledge the spontaneous applause that washed over him by the officials in the chamber, which included Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

At least the Canadians are willing to call Islamic terrorism for what it is.

Meanwhile, CBS News @markknoller Tweeted: "In Oval Office photo op, Pres Obama says it's not yet known what motivated shootings in Ottawa, but it emphasizes need to be vigilant."

I don't think that anyone in the Obama Administration have ever used the words "Islamic" and "terrorism" in the same sentence.

In the eyes of the Obama Administration, Canada suffers from “workplace violence” too.

Can I ask a stupid question?

Why is it said that he killed the “alleged” gunman?

Why did the guy in Oklahoma “allegedly” cut off the head of that poor woman?

But in the case of Ferguson Missouri, we are told that the cop actually but not allegedly killed Michael Brown?

Second Amendment starting to look like a pretty good idea, eh, Canada?

Watching the video on this story makes me genuinely feel embarrassed of the U.S. “government”. The whole damn thing.

That was one of the most moving scenes of tradition, grace, and duty I’ve ever seen. Here the guy would have been sent to a grand jury, people would sob over gun violence, and Obama would have called this a random bit of workplace violence.

“Alleged” refers to someone who is accused of a crime but has not had a trial to establish guilt or innocence.

If there is no doubt that a crime was committed and who did it, the word “perpetrator” is more appropriate.

Anyone know just how close the gunman got to the Prime Minister? I listened to a live stream from CTV yesterday and a commentator said that he’s likely to have gotten within yards of him.

Sadly, I did hear that some anti-gunners in the frozen north are already calling for even more guncontrol in the aftermath of this shooting. Some didots/libs/progs/socialists/commies/nazis just never learn. Hello!!! No matter how many laws you pass, the bad guys WILL get guns somehow someway. Maybe even from a fast and furious give away type program used only to trace the route illegal firearms take of course. They’d never actually be used in the commission of a crime. Er, not so much. Eric and his #2 bailing so the lyin’king can pardon them?

I hope Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s address to Parliament this morning shows up on video soon. It is a stark contrast to what Obama has been saying.

Just wondering. I understand the difference between being charged with a crime, and being convicted in a court of law.

But have noticed that many news people report as fact that Darren Wilson shot Michael Brown, without the qualifier that it was an alleged shooting. Whereas in other cases, they are always careful to say something “allegedly” happened.

If he were a black Muslim and this happened in the U.S., there would be rioting and flowers thrown in the streets in honor of the perpetrator.

The community would believe that the shooter was actually holding a sandwich, followed by calls for the officer’s head on a platter and the media showing where he lives so his wife and kids could be subject to being savaged by a racially inflamed mob.

And Obama would be saying if he had a son, he’d look just like him.

I recently saw an episode of a TV series that chronicles the work of Canada's Border Security Service. They showed one incident where a Texan,ex military, was going from Washington into British Columbia...he forgot to mention a pistol he had in the car (perfectly legal here) and, long story short, they took him away in handcuffs.

A few years back I entered Canada by car and they detained me for 90 minutes (no handcuffs or bars...but I wasn't free to leave) while they took apart the trunk of my car. They kept asking me about firearms. They weren't nasty of anything but they *did* look disappointed when they didn't find anything.I've entered Canada many times since with no problems at all.I guess I just look shifty! ;-)

“...many news people report as fact that Darren Wilson shot Michael Brown, without the qualifier that it was an alleged shooting.”

In the case of Ferguson PD Officer Darren Wilson, there is no disagreement that he shot Michael Brown, so he is not an “alleged” shooter. The disagreement is whether the shooting was justified.

Given that he has not been indicted, it is not even appropriate for him to be called an “alleged murderer.” But those who are disposed to judge by race rather than evidence are indeed saying the Officer Wilson is a murderer and not even using the word “alleged.”

Looks like the Canadians learned it takes a guy with a gun to stop a guy with a gun.

It happened at 10 am (Ottawa) yesterday, and Parliament was just beginning its daily session.

On Wednesdays, there’s no Question Period, but the party leaders meet with their caucuses, and that’s what was happening - all three parties were meeting in rooms on the same (ground) floor not far from where the takedown happened, so technically, the shooter did get “close” to the PM, though there were several walls and locked doors in between.

An interesting side-anecdote - the Conservative caucus has several ex-cops in it, and upon hearing what was happening outside, they immediately took charge - helped their colleages find cover, then stripped the flagpoles in the room to use as possible weapons, and barricaded the doors, refusing to let anybody in - even the RCMP, thinking they might be gunman just pretendng.

Could it have been the twelve NRA bumper stickers on your car? ;)
