In a dramatic shift in tone, a Vatican document said on Monday that homosexuals had "gifts and qualities to offer" and asked if Catholicism could accept gays and recognize positive aspects of same-sex couples.
Roman Catholic gay rights groups around the world hailed the paper as a breakthrough, but Church conservatives called it a betrayal of traditional family values.
The document, prepared after a week of discussions at an assembly of 200 bishops on the family, said the Church should challenge itself to find "a fraternal space" for homosexuals without compromising Catholic doctrine on family and matrimony.
While the text did not signal any change in the Church's condemnation of homosexual acts or gay marriage, it used less judgmental and more compassionate language than that seen in Vatican statements prior to the 2013 election of Pope Francis.
"Homosexuals have gifts and qualities to offer the Christian community: are we capable of welcoming these people, guaranteeing to them a further space in our communities? Often they wish to encounter a Church that offers them a welcoming home," said the document, known by its Latin name "relatio".

The clergy is one of several fields where people who want access to minors can get it; incredibly (/s), these people seek work in such fields...
I won’t paint all clergy with a broad brush, but understand why some people do.
Interesting perspective by people at the scene:

They can get in line behind me. I'll show the way.
‘gifts and qualities’ is PCage for that biblical bit.
Yup!
Yes.
This is HIGHLY suspect since it comes from Yahoo and Reuters. Which *Vatican document* said on Monday that homosexuals had “gifts and qualities to offer” and asked if Catholicism could accept gays and recognize positive aspects of same-sex couples?
Attention Liberal “Journalists.” The Church will NEVER change the teaching that homosexual sex or any sex outside of a marriage between one man and one woman is morally sinful.
PS The Church accepts ALL sinners and offers them God’s truth and salvation in Christ... which gives them FREEDOM from SIN!!!!
Repent and sin no more.
Exactly!!!
> Southern Baptists ...
Haven’t they already succumbed to the feminist agenda?
The sodomite agenda can’t be too far behind, regardless of what they say on their web page today.
If this is true, this is hugh and series.
Note that Romans 1:26-27 bluntly condemns same-sex sexual relationships in NT times.
And not only does Matthew 18:15-17 show that Jesus taught that a congregation is ultimately to show zero tolerance for unrepentant sinners, 1 Corinthians 5 gives an example of a sexual offender that should have been kicked out of the congregation.
In fact, not only does 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 tell Christians do not be deceived about the consequences of things which include sexual immorality, but 1 Corinthians 5:11 tells Christians not even to eat with such people.
So given its unscriptural stance on homosexuality, the Vatican evidently no longer has the things of God in mind, imo, but the things of men as Jesus reprimanded Peter for in Matthew 16:23.
Exactly as I thought: The press is misrepresenting this *document* as some sort of statement by the Church that is a document of doctrinal truth. It is not. It is merely a summary of what was discussed at what is supposed to be an open discussion.
Here is what the relatio actually stated:
50. Homosexuals have gifts and qualities to offer to the Christian community: are we capable of welcoming these people, guaranteeing to them a fraternal space in our communities? Often they wish to encounter a Church that offers them a welcoming home. Are our communities capable of providing that, accepting and valuing their sexual orientation, without compromising Catholic doctrine on the family and matrimony?
As one can see, it is somewhat different than the impression given by the secular press.

I’m with you. Hate the sin not the sinner. Sin is the condition of man the only thing that makes some better and closer to God is forgiveness asked for by a contrite heart.
We still have to teach against sin.
.
A couple of weeks ago in my Catechism class a boy asked what would happen if he committed a grave particular sin. Without hesitation I said, “You’d go to hell.”. Every kid in the room gasped.
I gave them a moment to let the seriousness soak in and then we talked about forgiveness. It made them get serious about how awful unrepented sin is.
Pope Francis won't be one-upped by Rowan Williams.
Instead of asking whether we can accept them, changing our rules to do so, why not ask if they can accept our rules if they want in the Church?
Words of the document. It does not condone the sin of homosexuality. Once again the liberal press writes what they want, instead of the facts.

51. The question of homosexuality leads to a serious reflection on how to elaborate realistic paths of affective growth and human and evangelical maturity integrating the sexual dimension: it appears therefore as an important educative challenge. The Church furthermore affirms that unions between people of the same sex cannot be considered on the same footing as matrimony between man and woman. Nor is it acceptable that pressure be brought to bear on pastors or that international bodies make financial aid dependent on the introduction of regulations inspired by gender ideology.
52. Without denying the moral problems connected to homosexual unions it has to be noted that there are cases in which mutual aid to the point of sacrifice constitutes a precious support in the life of the partners. Furthermore, the Church pays special attention to the children who live with couples of the same sex, emphasizing that the needs and rights of the little ones must always be given priority.
