Its time for Republicans to give serious thought to what happens if they win the Senate and House this November, as it looks increasingly that they will. While not exactly Pyrrhic, this victory will present a whole range of potential problems and traps that could negatively affect this countrys future and the world. And as we know, we are living in precarious times.
Barack Obama is a man unaccustomed to losing. Life has been exceptionally kind to him, sailing, as he did, through balmy Oahu sunsets, college, law school and career on into the presidency with scarcely a bump. He has been a protected man beyond any in recent memory, feted and praised virtually everywhere he went until the last couple of years. Even now, despite catastrophe after catastrophe, there are acolytes who continue to celebrate him, paying tens of thousands merely to have their photographs taken with him.
When such cosseted people are forced to confront failure, they typically do not do so with grace. They are rarely able to admit fault, as if even a crack in their pristine facades could lead to extreme personality disintegration. We have already seen manifestations of this in Obamas refusal to acknowledge something so obvious as his own inability to foresee the dangers of ISIS, aka the JV team. Insider books by Robert Gates, Hillary Clinton and Leon Panetta have appeared in rapid succession, implying or directly alleging that the president lives in a bubble, unwilling to listen to advice. He frequently threatens to and sometimes does go around the Congress to get his way via, often unconstitutional, executive fiat. We all know that he lies, constantly.
This man is angry but highly unlikely to go into an anger management program. Imagine what will happen after November. We could be looking at behavior that would fit the very definition of acting out, anti-social but on a global scale. And he still has two more years in office.
Do I exaggerate? I hope so, but I fear not. We have to be alert. Anything could happen. Remember: Obama is currently fighting ISIS against his will and only for electoral purposes. When the election is over, and especially if he loses, all bets are off. The man who made the apology tour throughout the Islamic world and was best friends with Islamists Morsi and Erdogan could reappear as never before. What that could mean could be any number of things, but none of them good. The Global War on Terror could become another example of work-place violence in an instant. Kurds and Israelis better beware.
The Environmental Protection Agency could become a virtual American gestapo, changing the fabric of our lives, while all sorts of rules and regulations pour down, impoverishing America in the name of income inequality or the all-important fairness.
Look for the race card to be played as never before. A man like Obama would much prefer to blame the color of his skin for his failures than his policies. Then he would have to evaluate himself.
One thing we can be sure of, if the Democrats lose the Senate, look for Hillary Clinton to separate from Obama even further than she has. You can imagine Bill telling her to explain that when she said What difference does it make? about Benghazi, she really meant What difference does it make if Obama is in control?
True as that might be, it is a bridge too far even for Bill. But the equivalent will be said many times. But we must not be confused or deceived by that inevitable gulf. If Hillary is elected, it will largely be by the same people who elected Obama. She will be beholden to them and nothing will change. As time goes on, it will inevitably grow worse.
As treacherous as the last few years have been, the next two, even with a Republican victory, could be even more so. Stay vigilant. Victory in November is, at best, a halfway house. Dont celebrate for long.
What is your alternative? Let the Democrats remain in control? How did that work out for you in 2008?
The 2014 election is in less than a month. Either the Democrats (i.e. Harry Reid) will continue to control the Senate or the Republicans (including a lot of RINOs) will control the Senate. One or the other is going to happen. The good fairy is not going to suddenly appear and give you a third option.
I wish that we could replace all of the RINOs with conservatives. I wish a lot of things.
"Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence." - John Adams.
All we can do is choose the least bad option between the options that we actually have and continue to work like hell to have better options next time.
In my book, that makes them a bunch of worthless pansies.
I think “Fresh Prince of Bill Ayers” is my favorite epithet, with “Admiral Barackbar” being second and “Obola” being my third.
It’s ‘Change you can bereave in.’
Statists, globalist win, US Constitution loses.
Absolutely and totally false. Once you "buy" into that kind of logic you are nothing more then a "tool" for the ruling class. What difference does it make if the Rats win or the GOPe wins? Zip, zero, nadda. Screw the Rats and screw the GOPe.
Worse, their afraid of being put in a position where they are EXPECTED to go against Obola and risk being called racists, etc.
You're damned right. Fact are stubborn things. And the fact is that your strategy has put us exactly where we are. Even when we had a majority, the Republicans did not put forth any conservative initiatives. They have already indicated that they will continue playing nice with the Democrats and have openly declared conservatives to be the enemy of the party. Do you not believe your own party leaders? You want to reward the prostitutes who have ruined the party?
Every election, the GOP puts forth another set of moderate pukes and then complains that the conservatives didn't vote. The FACT is that conservatives have voted; time and time again. In fact, more conservatives voted for Romney than Bush. The truth is that no one votes for these mealy-mouthed Democratic-Light RINOs because they aren't conservative and they aren't liberalthey have no natural constituency. It is asinine to believe that you will gain votes by pushing the most lukewarm, boring, do-nothing, stand-for-nothing political hacks. And it is not even conceivable that any such group will promote conservative legislation or make principled decisions.
If you continue to vote for RINOs, you will get more. This election will have absolutely no effect on Obama, regardless of how many RINOs you elect. It could possibly have an effect on the GOP if they realize that conservative are not going to vote for their RINOs.
Go ahead. Sell your vote; set aside your principles; go begging to Rove and his minions. Prove them right--he expects you to continue with your party-loyalist mentality. Stay on the plantation; don't upset the Massah! Just don't ever talk about any Democrat constituency again! You are the exact same.
There are some that love to wallow in the muck of mediocrity and would be OK in the Congressional status quo is maintained.
Then we start becoming more vocal and put as much pressure on them as possible to start doing the right thin: Attack the Boehners and support Cruz and others who actually espouse conservatism.
Not a hell of a lot. Only the names will change.
In 1992, Bush ran for re-election. Conservative voters either stayed home or were suckered into voting for Ross Perot (a liberal whack job pretending to be conservative). Consequently, Clinton was elected President, but we sure showed those establishment Republicans.
In 1996, the Republicans nominated Bob Dole, another epitome of establishment Republicans, because it was his turn. In WWII Dole was a legitimate war hero, but had always been a moderate to liberal Senator. Once again, conservative voters either stayed home or were suckered into voting for Perot (less than last time, but enough to turn the election). Consequently, Clinton was re-elected President, but once again we sure showed those establishment Republicans.
In 2000, the Republicans nominated George W. Bush, a compassionate conservative (i.e., another moderate establishment Republican). Once again, a lot of conservative voters stayed home. Consequently, Al Gore was almost elected President (he won a majority of the popular vote), but once again we really showed those establishment Republicans.
In 2004, Bush was re-elected President. I have no doubt that the only reason Bush was re-elected was because enough conservatives realized how close we had come to having President Al Gore on 9/11 that the thought of President Kerry scared them enough not to stay home. Certainly, Bush did not win re-election based on his tax and spend compassionate conservative policies.
In 2008, the Republicans nominated John McCain, another epitome of establishment Republicans, because like Dole in 1996, this time it was his turn. Again like Dole, McCain was a legitimate war hero, but a moderate to liberal Senator. Once again, conservative voters stayed home, this time in droves. Consequently, Obama was elected President and the Democrats got filibuster proof majorities in the House and Senate. Sure the Democrats got complete control over the federal government and could do whatever they wanted, but this time we really showed those establishment Republicans.
In 2012, the Republicans nominated Mittens Romney, another epitome of establishment Republicans. Once again, conservative voters stayed home. Once again, Obama was elected President and the Democrats kept control of the Senate, but once again we really showed those establishment Republicans.
I will do whatever I can to get a conservative candidate to vote for in 2016. I hope and pray that we get one, because if not then I dont think our nation can survive. If we get another RINO, then I will vote against Hillary and for the RINO, because I prefer to stay alive a little longer on life support and keep trying than to give up, pull the plug and die. Frankly, if we show those establishment Republicans that we mean business one more time, I dont see how we will make it another four years.
"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results." Is the Republican party repeatedly nominating moderate candidates insane? You betcha. Is conservatives repeatedly staying home and letting the Democrats get elected just as insane? You betcha.
Conservatives refused to vote for RINOs in five of the past six Presidential elections. All that got us was President Clinton, President Obama and damned near President Algore. How has that strategy been working out for you so far?
Do whatever you can to get the best candidates nominated that you can vote for, but when it comes time to vote all you can do is pick between the candidates that you actually have to choose from. Unless you are on the ballot, you will never have a candidate to vote for that you agree with all of the time. The best you can hope for is an opportunity to vote for a candidate that you agree with most of the time. In most cases, your choice comes down to which is the lesser of two evils. That is reality whether you like it or not.
In one month, either the Democrats will continue to control the Senate for another two years or Republicans (including a lot of RINOs) will control the Senate. Those are the only two possibilities. One of those two choices is going to occur, whether or not you refuse to pick one.
In a Republican/RINO controlled Senate, at least the conservatives have a chance of blocking some of Obama's far left wing liberal judicial appointments. In a Democrat/Harry Reid controlled Senate, then conservatives have no chance whatsoever to block anything.
If you seriously think that you are sending anyone a message by not voting then you are seriously deluding yourself. The only message that you send by refusing to vote is that you give up and the liberals win.
I like that one, very subtle.
Another good one is “Pres__ent”.
Your argument makes no sense. Your RINOs have approved every appointment that Obama has proposed. You are lying about the elections. Your RINO candidates playing Democrat-light gave us Clinton, Obama and damned near Gore. Bush senior lost because he was always a moderate and he ran a bad campaign after lying and raising taxes. Dole, McCain and Romney—your candidates whom we all voted for, put us where we are.
The nomination process is owned by the GOPe and they have repeatedly thrown the elections to Democrats. The Senate has done nothing conservative since Reagan, and there is no change in sight. The liberals win as long as you put party over principle. The (R) beside the deciding liberal vote only adds insult to injury.
Your lesser-of-two-evils approach has only driven the evil further and further, and has promoted an amoral cabal to lead the party and work against its founding principles and slander all who value faith, family and country.
At some point, a reasonable person has to say no to evil regardless of the “sides.” When we have republican candidates and office-holders espousing “progressive” ideas and voting for liberal initiatives time and time again, then there is no value in continuing the pretense.
So give up, crawl up in a ball and let the liberals win because you don’t like the choices that you have.
You have yet to suggest any viable alternative to simply letting the liberals win and hoping that it will send a message to the Republicans to nominate candidates that you like next time. Meanwhile, the things that the liberals are doing while they are in power today will continue to affect our children for a generation to come.
Maybe you will have better luck wishing that you had better choices in your next life.
Not much will happen. A few pieces of legislation might get passed that wouldn’t have otherwise.
There still won’t be a single member of the House or Senate willing to say that the “birth certificate” is a crude forgery. Or that the “president” is almost certainly a citizen of Indonesia, not the United States—i.e., he’s an illegal alien. Or that his “draft registration” is a crude forgery, meaning that his holding a federal job is illegal.
If not voting is the way to “punish” or “show” the GOPe, then clearly, there’s a way to “punish” and “show” them that would be TWICE AS EFFECTIVE: Vote for Democrats.
Actually, voting for RINOs is twice as effective for the liberal cause: it not only adds another liberal voter; it also keeps true conservatives from holding office.
I will continue to vote only for conservative GOP candidates when that is possible. I refuse to support any liberals, Democrats or RINOs.
Ya’ll keep up your good GOPe work!
Party uber Principle! Sieg Karl!
