What Happens if Republicans Win?
P.J. Media ^ | 10-9-14 | Roger L. Simon

It’s time for Republicans to give serious thought to what happens if they win the Senate and House this November, as it looks increasingly that they will. While not exactly Pyrrhic, this victory will present a whole range of potential problems and traps that could negatively affect this country’s future and the world. And as we know, we are living in precarious times.

Barack Obama is a man unaccustomed to losing. Life has been exceptionally kind to him, sailing, as he did, through balmy Oahu sunsets, college, law school and career on into the presidency with scarcely a bump. He has been a protected man beyond any in recent memory, feted and praised virtually everywhere he went until the last couple of years. Even now, despite catastrophe after catastrophe, there are acolytes who continue to celebrate him, paying tens of thousands merely to have their photographs taken with him.

When such cosseted people are forced to confront failure, they typically do not do so with grace. They are rarely able to admit fault, as if even a crack in their pristine facades could lead to extreme personality disintegration. We have already seen manifestations of this in Obama’s refusal to acknowledge something so obvious as his own inability to foresee the dangers of ISIS, aka the JV team. Insider books by Robert Gates, Hillary Clinton and Leon Panetta have appeared in rapid succession, implying or directly alleging that the president lives in a bubble, unwilling to listen to advice. He frequently threatens to — and sometimes does — go around the Congress to get his way via, often unconstitutional, executive fiat. We all know that he lies, constantly.

This man is angry but highly unlikely to go into an anger management program. Imagine what will happen after November. We could be looking at behavior that would fit the very definition of “acting out,” anti-social but on a global scale. And he still has two more years in office.

Do I exaggerate? I hope so, but I fear not. We have to be alert. Anything could happen. Remember: Obama is currently fighting ISIS against his will and only for electoral purposes. When the election is over, and especially if he loses, all bets are off. The man who made the apology tour throughout the Islamic world and was best friends with Islamists Morsi and Erdogan could reappear as never before. What that could mean could be any number of things, but none of them good. The Global War on Terror could become another example of “work-place violence” in an instant. Kurds and Israelis better beware.

The Environmental Protection Agency could become a virtual American gestapo, changing the fabric of our lives, while all sorts of rules and regulations pour down, impoverishing America in the name of income inequality or the all-important “fairness.”

Look for the race card to be played as never before. A man like Obama would much prefer to blame the color of his skin for his failures than his policies. Then he would have to evaluate himself.

One thing we can be sure of, if the Democrats lose the Senate, look for Hillary Clinton to separate from Obama even further than she has. You can imagine Bill telling her to explain that when she said “What difference does it make?” about Benghazi, she really meant “What difference does it make if Obama is in control?”

True as that might be, it is a bridge too far even for Bill. But the equivalent will be said — many times. But we must not be confused or deceived by that inevitable gulf. If Hillary is elected, it will largely be by the same people who elected Obama. She will be beholden to them and nothing will change. As time goes on, it will inevitably grow worse.

As treacherous as the last few years have been, the next two, even with a Republican victory, could be even more so. Stay vigilant. Victory in November is, at best, a halfway house. Don’t celebrate for long.

If it slows Obama’s destruction, it’s better than the alternative.

Winning control of the Senate this year is just the first necessary step in saving the nation.

If the Democrats remain in control of the Senate, then there will be nothing that Cruz or any other conservative Senator can do to prevent the confirmation of every far left wing liberal judge that Obama wants to appoint. Obama's left wing judicial appointments will be legislating from the bench for the next 30 years.

If the Republicans take over the Senate this year, then even though there are a lot of RINOs, conservative Senators will at least have a chance to filibuster Obama's left wing appointments.

The next vital step is to elect a conservative President and for the Republicans to hold onto the Senate and the House in 2016. It will then be possible to reverse almost everything that Obama has done (though his judicial appointments will go on legislating).

Justices Scalia and Kennedy will both turn 80 in 2016. Thomas will turn 70 in 2018. The next President is almost certain to get to replace at least one of these three, probably two, maybe all three.

Look at every 5/4 decision that has gone the right way in the past decade. Every single one of those decisions will be reversed if Kennedy, Scalia or Thomas is replaced with a liberal. The 1st Amendment will be found to protect only speech that liberals like, the 2nd Amendment will be found to protect nothing, and the 10th Amendment will be written out entirely.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

If the house and senate are in Republican hands, I will be slightly less concerned about obozo. Slightly. I know he will still get an uncomplaining pass if he gets to nominate a SC justice.

Many people look at Kennedy and the Camelot fairy tale to be the pinnacle of favorable MSM treatment. Obama makes Kennedy look like a man under constant attack by comparison.

Can’t call him the Teflon President, because nothing is ever thrown his way that could stick.

This is if anything the naked Emperor, and the MSM knows it. They just don’t bother to talk about his trouser trout, even if everyone knows it’s figuratively out there in plain sight.

Birth records, College records, countless scandals..., this guy gets a pass on everything. If anything is mentioned, it is done so lightly, and presented in a laugh-off mode, so the public can be assured there is really nothing there.

Don’t look at that trout. We’ve had our nose two inches from it, and it simply isn’t there. Don’t be confused!

I know he will still get an uncomplaining pass if he gets to nominate a SC justice.

If the Republicans take control of the Senate, then it will just take 40 conservative Senators to find their balls and filibuster Obama's far left wing appointments. Maybe there will be enough and maybe there will not. But some chance is better than none.

If the Democrats hold the Senate, then there will be no right to filibuster anything unless Harry Reid wants there to be a filibuster.

...the president lives in a bubble, unwilling to listen to advice

The exact same thing could be said about the GOP. In its own way it too is unresponsive to advice from its base. And somehow gets away with it -- election after election.

They continue doing nothing, Obama continues ruling by decree, and both parties continue to enrich themselves at the altar of Crony Capitalism.

In other words, aside from the occasional TV show trial about Benghazi or the IRS, not much difference.

As opposed to the Democrats getting the House, in which case we’d be getting Socialism on the rocket docket.

What changed when R’s held both houses and the Presidency, about 10-12 years ago?

Senate Republicans already rubber stamp Obama's appointments. Look at the results. Your bedtime stories are great for putting people to sleep, but more RINOs means more of the same. Keep voting RINOs--Rove wants to complete his fundamental transformation of the GOP. Go team!

I assert that the GOPe is actually afraid of winning, because they’ll be expected to thwart Obama, and they really don’t want to be in that position."

The GOP will perform as advertised. Torch Obamacare, export more jobs with free trade, enter another recession, war in the Ukraine, war in Irag, close US borders, back Israel invasion into Gaza, officially end 2 State solution, break relations with the Vatican. We are born in interesting times.

Agreed. Without a change in the Senate and House leadership, although obama’s agenda may be slowed a little, not much else will change and there will be NO advancement of conservative principles (which is the only alternative to the government we have now).

Yep. If republicans have control of the senate for Obama’s last two years, they’ll at least be able to control the agenda in both houses of congress.

And, you’re correct, if they appoint the next three judges, this nation is toast.

EH, they’ll just bend over and give the demons what they want, just like last time. The demons and the media will say how unfair it is that one side has all the power and demand that they share, and of course the party of rino will capitulate. It’s funny how in taxifornia where the demons have all the power no one cries about it being unfair.

Here’s what will happen if/when the GOP controls both houses of Congress: not a lot.

The President will continue to act beyond his authority and Congress will rattle sabers but secretly breathe easy that they don’t have to go on record actually doing anything. Bills will pass both Houses that have zero chance of being signed into law, but Obama will at least be forced to pull out the veto pen that Reid has so far kept from his hand.

A GOP Senate is at least marginally more likely to reject true nutjobs for political and court appointments, and nothing getting done does at least mean the feds can’t find new ways to interfere with the general public (though they’ll “interpret” existing law to do whatever they want anyway, I’m sure).
