A word about posting satire

No, FR is not trying to quash satire. However, it should be clearly labeled as such in the title. Some people seem to think it's great trickling our readers into falling for satire. It's not. A lot of people come to FR and scan the headlines clicking on articles of interest. If they're not familiar with the author or source, they may be misled and may even pass it on to others. No thanks.
If you post satire, please label it as "satire' in the title.
Thanks

Remember how in Men in Black when they went to get the real news from the supermarket tabloids to find out about alien incidents that they needed to follow? Sad part is some Tabloids are more credible now than the Liberal Press.

Admit it: John’s is (are?) good. I wish I had that kind of writing talent.

Certainly there is no "LOOK AT ME!" factor involved. As if.
100% agree. He seems only to want to get over on people here.

Well, this solution seems pretty good then, eh?
Now, do you want to also put rules on my posts to f-chat?

While a big fan of John’s satire, we don’t need to bag on hg. Humble has done a great job in ragging bloggers that post a sentence drawing hits for blogs which is just an abuse of Jim Robinson’s great site.
If we want humblegunnner to be effective at slowing down that overall abuse, and it was very widespread before he started calling it out, we have to understand the useful cop function it serves.

We understand what you're saying, JR. You're right of course.
But it so much fun reading the enraged, foam-mouthed responses of the FR nuts who are roped into the semi-truthful, semi-untruthful posts.

it hurts the forum when someone posts a phony inflammatory headline and story with almost no indication that its a fake story. I know what you mean and I agree when it's a slipshod, silly attempt. But that is NOT Semmens kind of work, and he always labels it Satire appropriately.
IMO what is worse are the "hook" titles like "You won't believe what Joe Blow said today!" and the entire post is a video link. Stupid teaser garbage.

Semmens has posted here for years. Clearly. Like a parasite.
And now he feels a need to "call the cops" or "tell teacher" on me.
What an awesome fellow.
Had he the power, I should expect an audit.

Love you John, it’s your sincere flatterers (imitators) that have necessitated this.
There were a couple good ones yesterday and it’s getting out of hand.

Some of it is. But some folks work too hard and the product gets stale, sadly.
Everybody isn’t P.J. O’Rourke.
To: GeronL
John Semmens is not at fault that people dont take the time to see the 3 or more places that it is labeled as satire. But not in the title. Iowahawk, whose satires are actually funny, always posts "Iowahawk" in the title so people know what they are getting. I DO NOT APPRECIATE HAVING MY TIME WASTED BY CLICKING ON A TITLE THAT APPEARS LEGITIMATE ONLY TO FIND A MADE-UP STORY. It's rude and deceptive.

I agree to a point. But Semmens isn’t some newbie troll, he’s been here a long time and has become an accepted part of this forum. MANY FReepers look forward to what he comes up with next. Someone (not nec. hg) with a particular dislike to either his writing or to him, personally, is not reason to start having his stuff pulled.

Do you mean that Eric Holder is NOT going to JP Morgan Chase for $77 million per year? LOL I read that and at first assumed the $77 was a typo and should have been $7 million.

I enjoy reading the satire bits. But with the loony tunes running the country, it’s sometime difficult to tell the difference between the satire and our unfortunate reality.

I have a friend who routinely sends me bogus political emails (and he gets all excited)...then a few hours later I get another email advising that the previous one wasn’t true.
