~ The FReeper Canteen Presents ~
~ Happy 67th Birthday, United States Air Force ~
~ September 18, 2014 ~
Canteen Mission Statement
Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies' military and family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
The United States Air Force became a separate military service on September 18, 1947, with the implementation of the National Security Act of 1947. The Act created the National Military Establishment, later renamed the United States Department of Defense, which was composed of three branches, the Army, Navy and a newly created Air Force. Prior to 1947, the responsibility for military aviation was divided between the Army (for land-based operations) and the Navy, for sea-based operations from aircraft carrier and amphibious aircraft.
Curtiss JNB-4 Jenny
The United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) was the predecessor of the U.S. Army Air Forces (USAAF) from 1926-41, which in turn was the forerunner of todays U.S. Air Force (USAF), established on June 21, 1947. Although abolished as an organization in 1941, it existed as a branch subordinate to the USAAF from 1941-47. The Air Corps was created from the Air Service in 1926 largely as a compromise between advocates of a separate air arm and those of the command structure of the United States Army who viewed the aviation arm as an auxiliary branch to support the ground forces. Although its members worked to promote the concept of airpower and an autonomous air force between 1926 and 1941, as a branch of the Army similar to the Signal Corps or Quartermaster Corps, its primary purpose by Army policy remained support. Much as it did a quarter century before, the United States immediately demobilized its armed forces after World War II. Based on the AAF's wartime achievements and future potential, however, the U.S. Air Force won its independence as a full partner with the Army and the Navy on September 18, 1947.
Please remember that The Canteen is here to support and entertain our troops and veterans and their families, and is family friendly.

I've actually managed to get quite a bit done in the last few days.
Now I need to really crunch numbers so I can tell how bad off we are.
Which if I've done my job well this year, won't be too bad. Much the same here with the help of a wonderful program control anaylst and good tech leads - looks like we're under budget on all of our projects.

Still no updates as of noon. I still want to know why the LCRA opened gates at Mansfield. The lake is over 50 feet low and is a flood control lake.

Glad to hear that EOY things are going well for you.
I had a fantastic "financial" workout yesterday.
Spent most of the day changing spend plan on one of the expiring jobs - one minute, thought it was good, then someone informs me they are going on travel under a different project...yeah? Thanks a lot. LOL

Sorry to read about your mom falling. A walker would help her if she would consent to using one.
I can no longer walk without a walker or my two canes.
My balance is off due to my arthritic knee. I had knee replacement done on the left knee, however my right knee will not be done. I was told by my Doctor given my other health issues it is too risky.
I am grateful I can walk.
